How to remove prop from 1997 Johson?

Hi.

I just bought a 1997 Johnson 25 hp with electric start. I am trying to remove the prop to greace the shaft. I removed the cotter pin, spindle nut and washer without any problems, but I can't get the prop off. Is there any trick to doing this without damaging the lower unit?

Sounds like its frozen on. Spray the shaft and hup with PB Blaster or WD40 and let it set for a couple of hours. Then tap the hub area of the prop with a hammer to try and free it. If that doesn't work you may need a prop puller.

Chris is correct but I would add more time to soak if it does not come loose. This can be a real problem. I had to destroy a prop on a 1988 70 merc I had. Previous owner had on boat at ocean and had never pulled. You have inspired me to go pull the prop on my E-rude.
