An inch and a half on each side of the boat will hardly be noticable, I would'nt give it a second thought.

my boat is 8'8" plus the guide poles on the trailer, but it is only 24' long. I have never had a problem, but I do trailer to Fla and Miss from Alabama from time to time. I don't have a tag on my trailer, nor do I have a transom tie down YET, but I plan to get one soon. I also only have brakes on one axle but my truck will easily stop my boat.
I sure hope I am not tempting fate.....

Reviving this old thread to ask:

Does anyone know if the FL permit for trailers > 8.5 and < 10'...
-still $20 for a year?
-restrict the trailer to certain routes?
-restrict trailer to certain days, or exclude weekends?

Contemplating a 275 Explorer, which is 9'8" wide.

Yep, it's still $20 for the year. Under 10 feet and there are no restrictions on time of travel and no need to give your route. From part of FAC 14-26.008 (first number is for a 5 day permit and the second is for a 12 month permit)

(d) Trailers or equipment towed with ball or pintle.

Up to 10 feet wide or up to 13 feet 6 inches high or up to 80 feet long.
$5.00
$20.00
*Up to 12 feet wide or up to 13 feet 6 inches high or up to 105 feet long.
$5.00
$330.00
*Up to 14 feet wide or up to 14 feet 6 inches high or up to 105 feet long.
$15.00
$500.00
*Over 14 feet wide or over 14 feet 6 inches high or over 105 feet long.
$25.00
NOT ISSUED

Yes, overwide is illegal in most states. The trick is to have a big/wide trailer under it. My experience is that you will not have a problem of being over wide unless you put your boat on a little pussy trailer. Spend the money and buy a big trailer if you are going to tow.

I can't belive how many people spend 12k on electronics and put an under rated trailer on the road. The seven mile bridge in the Keys is backed up all the time with the "Yep, it fit's guy's" Trailers.

Proportional is the key. Also never pull a big, wide boat with a little half ton truck on a narrow trailer. If you do that, It's like just putting on a sign that say's D.O.T. pull me over.

It's great to look good on the water, but it is also great to go down the road in style, presenting a look of "I know what the "F" I'm doing. Saves a lot of trouble with the LEO.

My 26 footer will ride on this. 21,000 GVW, 8 lug, torsion spring and stainless brakes on 6, "E" rated tires.

No such thing as overkill on a trailer. Those in the know, Know what I mean.
