Default Electric boat trailer winch

I am considering a Power Winch RC30 to mount on my trailer for a 23' 4400# boat. Has anyone had experience with these units. Good or bad? Also are they difficult to install?

Good winch, biggest issues is if you get it with out the housing being damaged.....

Power Winch simply does not use quality packageing...

Just a note ... if your useing a bunk trailer rub the bunks with a cheap candle from wally world and it will decrease the force needed to load your boat...

Never had an electric trailer winch that was worth a crap. Take the money you save by not buying one and not rigging your tow vehcile with the high amp wires to the battery:

Invest in a top of the line 2 speed manual winch. Take the money that you have saved, convert it to $5 bills, hide it in your boat. Everytime you need it wound up on the trailer, ask a kid that is drooling at your boat if he will wind it up for you for $5.

They did make a good winch but since production went overseas the problems have increased. We have sold both the PowerWinch and Dutton-Lainson winches. We no longer sell the PowerWinch because of problems we have had with them. Check out this winch if you go with a electric boat winch plus they are made in the USA.

I used a power winch on my old Mako 25 trailer for about a year and then I learned to drive the boat all of the way up to the bow catcher. Either way worked fine for me.

I've heard about Powerwinch problems, but so far (about a year) mine is holding up well. I've got the strap version: ST712

If/when she gives up the ghost, I'll try Easternmarine's suggestion.

i have a powerwinch and i made sure i could buy the largest that i could afford. Winches are over rated and they are tested to pull weight on flat ground on rollers. Your boat on rollers or bunk going up hill needs more power then what they are telling you it could pull. I had a 5k lb capacity on a 3k boat with bunk trailer and the motor never failed but did whine quite a bit. There is no way it was pullling the 5k it was rated for.

I have the RC30. Use it on a 225 Sea Hunt WA. At least 4000# . Used about 45 times in 2 years with no problems. I love the remote control. Makes it a lot easier if your by yourself. Just use the double line. Takes a few minutes but gets the job done. I have a roller trl. George

I have a D-L TW9000 which I shipped over from USA >>>> nothing similar in the UK !
My toy is only a 20ft RHIB with Opti 150 and weighs c 3200lbs with dive kit loaded when recovering - but with a full roller trailer this does seem fine. It has a strap not wire and I have been very pleased with it. It does seem a bit slower than hand winching but in reality its just as quick as I don't need to stop for breath
I am definitely getting too old for hand winching

I have a 4k boat and use the RC23 - two seasons and not one problem and I use it roughly 75 times per year.

I have a Dutton-Lainson but it's a strap model. Works fine. Follow the maintenance instructions and don't skimp on wire size.
