I have brand new boat, about a month old, when I recieved the boat I found these very small specks all over the boat, thinking something was sprayed at the factory and got on the boat.
I took it back, they removed them, or most of them at the dealer.
They have returned, and are coming back in places they werent before. They are VERY small and are rust color although there is nothing metal anywhere around them.
They are now appearing on the outside of the hull. Anyone know what these are or how to remove them?
Last time I saw that was when a friend used a fine wire brush to clean up some spots on his t-top. Everywhere a microscopic piece of wire landed there was a small rust spot. They clean up easily but are a pain. Might not be the case but I'd give the boat a thorough scrubbing to get rid of any remaining pieces to see if that's the culprit.
Ford had this problem on lighter colored trucks and cars. They were from the railroad tracks and got into the paint during transit. These were being repainted under warranty. Now I have never seen a boat moved by rail, only by truck. Has anyone here seen one moved by rail?
I cut a piece of galvanized chain to lenght, yes onthe boat,in a vice. Cut it perfectly, and now I have some little iron/ rust spots. It's a fishing boat! I also found a piece of squid not to far away,it was so old that it didn't even smell. Oh yeah, never no when i am gonna find a stray dead green crab, they make beautiful decor on my boat too. It's a fishing boat, furniture is my wife''s department.
Ok I posted this same question twice and got lots of good advice...
Here's what really works. The owner at the Marina lent some of his "secret recipe".
MARYKATE Cleaning Detail
Just used it tonight. Its green gunk. It is quite miraculous. It took all the rust stains off with basically no abrasive - if it is real bad use the scotch pad stuff with it. I promise. I became a believer today.
I have never endorsed a product on any site. But this was quite amazing. WWW.marykate.com
They also make OnOff, which will remove the rust stains. It is some powerful nasty stuff though, like 3 different types of acid. Will dissolve the little flakes of metal causing the stains though.
Barryrod is right the ONN/OFF is actually the best and most powerful but it is for hard plastic and fiberglass only. IT will eat metal and paint and rubber. On/OFF is mostly Hydrochloric acid and if you use it rinse it off immediately aff all metal and anything else that ain't fiberglass.
But it Does take all that boat alge/scumm/stain stuff off with no effort at all.
The cleaning detail is a lot safer especially if you are in an enclosed area or some place where it could leak to the engines or lower units.
I had a similar problem once. I left a coffee can (held tools, nuts, and the like) on the bow locker lid for a couple of days. Oops. It rained a couple of times and I had a nasty rust circle where it was sitting.
Wax/refinisher, CLR (acid: be careful), and compound did not touch it. A member recommended Barkeepers Friend (whick I have in the kitchen for my All-Clad pans). Took the stain right away and is very gentle as well. Good stuff.
When the deck gets nasty I'll give it a quick wash with BKF. It will remove wax I'm sure. Clean before you wax.
Check other posts, the stuff is wonderful. Grocery store carries it.
