Where is the largest concentration of boats Mid-Atlantic or FLA
Looking for some market info,
Where is the largest concentration of boats within a 200 mile radius? Mid Atlantic(NJ, MD, DE) or the state of Fla.
With Florida's are there seasonal fluctuations, are the boats hauled more often in any one month?
Where in the state is the largest boating population?
RE: Where is the largest concentration of boats Mid-Atlantic or FLA
FL would be my guess, I have a fishing partner that is an adjuster for State Farm and he told me that State Farm insures more boats in FL than all other areas combined. This statement was 3-4 years ago but I am sure it is still somewhat true

RE: Where is the largest concentration of boats Mid-Atlantic or FLA
I knew I had this info somewhere!
Okay, the initial question is "who has the most concntration of boats, mid atlantic or Fl?"
Answer: depends.
In terms of area, the MidAtlantic and NE take top prize with # of boats per square mile. DC takes first prize with 30 boats per sq.mi. Rounding out the top five is RI, NJ, CT, and MD. Florida is better than the average of SouthEast states with 16 boats per sq.mi which is still more than GA, SC, NC, and VA.
In terms of population (# of persons per boat) it's Florida again with more population density than the average for the MidAtl states. However, FL is not better than SC (ranked 4th). The number one spot is Minnesota with six persons per boat. WI, DC, SC, and MT round out the top five states.

I have read that same thing myself, but it might have been a few years ago so I wonder if that is still currently the case.
They haven't been number one since about 2001. Now, there is a caveat. This is REGISTERED boats. The NUMBER of boats may have MI as the top but this is very difficult to track. Perhaps by boat sales. It all is predicated on what are the registration requirements for a particular state.
One also has to take into account documented boats as well - which I don't have very robust data.

Q: Where is the largest concentration of boats within a 200 mile radius? Mid Atlantic(NJ, MD, DE) or the state of Fla.
USCG stats do not lie, THT’s have their own opinions, the diff is FACTS vs. Fiction.
Q: With Florida's are there seasonal fluctuations, are the boats hauled more often in any one month?
YES, there are.
I lived in N FL for 18 years, during the cold months a few offshore trips weather permitting; also limited inshore based on weather (Fog, cold temp below 60’s)
For the past 12 years in S FL, and almost year around boating (weather permitting)
As for FACT stats; one would have to look into State Parks stats to actually prove the statistics.
Q: Where in the state is the largest boating population?
From what I have seen and observed over 30 yrs : S FL, SE FL, SW FL, N FL, Panhandle (not sure about the correct seq; but S FL is #1 ). I am sure some where in the county records you will find the stats. If you have the free time/money; anything is possible.
Re: Where is the largest concentration of boats Mid-Atlantic or FLA
It appears from that USCG link that FL does not require unmotorized sailboats to register, but Michigan does. That would inflate the Michigan number.
I would also say the density is about the same b/w FL and NJ/MD/DE given that FL has 2x the boats as those 3 states and about twice the combined land area.

You're right 1/2 the number of boats but the difference in area is a factor of three
Maryland's total area—10,460 sq mi ---------------- 204,477 boats ---- 19.54 per square mile
Delaware total area is 2,044 sq mi ------------------ 59,192 boats ------- 28.95 per square mile
New Jersey total area is 7,787 sq mi ----------------- 205,967 boats -------26.45 per square mile
3 State average-------------------------------------------------------------- Avg. 24.98 per square mile
The total area of Florida is 58,664 sq mi - ------- 988,657 boats ------- 16.85 per square mile

every question I have ever asked on this web site , has been answered quickly and provided insight beyond my expectations.
Thanks.
Dingbat, those stats help.
I have a mobile marine service covering the mid-atlantic, and consider expanding the service to FLA.
Boats per square mile - just what I was looking for
Re: Where is the largest concentration of boats Mid-Atlantic or FLA
Florida has the highest concentration of "real" boats....not tin cans with 9.9's on the back....ocean on one side, gulf on the other....blue hair/cadillacs in between....what was the question....?
