Default Single Outboard

Can a LH prop be used on a single outboard instead of a RH?

No problem, the boat will just lean in the opposite direction and it will determine which side of the transom you place your transducer etc. Opposite from RH obviuosly because of prop wash... I guess I should qualify my above statement as: As long as it is a CR lower unit! Otherwise the prevoius post is correct........

Or you can run 5000 rpm's in reverse., motors are not built for that. Don't try it- Just kidding. People have ruined their lower unit with this tactic!

Figured as much. Someone once told me you could do it, but I wasn't buying it.

You can easily switch the direction of the older Volvo stern drives. They came from the factory with a LH rotation prop. Folks, for some reason, wanted a RH rotation, so they easily changed it by changing the connection lever near the intermediate housing.

But as already mentioned, with an O/B, you would need to buy a motor which rotates the direction that you want.

Good luck!

It's not the motors that turn backwards, it's the lower units. The engines are RHR- both!
