Random Quote: Capt. of the Exxon-Valdez to first mate,"NOOOO, I said Chevis on the rocks!"
Just thought I would let everyone know I have 1998 225 Yami OX66 that acted up on me today 25 miles offshore. I had ran Sea Foam and Yamaha Ring free through it in a shock treatment about 2 hrs ago. (Note..always used good quality Merc, Yami oil with ring free). Went back to regular levels and filled tank up then went fishing. When I tried to come back in i could not get above 4300 to 4400 rpm, about 1000 low. Got back in and thought my O2 sensor was shot, but to my surprise it had a fouled plug, the one with the O2 sensor. I knew I should have changed my plugs after that shock treatment but didn't. Moral of the story always change those plugs...
Garrett,
Sorry if my post was confusing. I meant to say about four engine hours ago. The shock treatment was actually done about a week ago before I left to go on vacation, but it was about 4 engine hours ago. Sorry my bad.
Fish eye, The O2 Sensor is on the starboard side of the engine on the top of the cylinder bank. It has a wire running to it on top of the engine. A 7/8 inch wrench fits it. Hope this helps cause I was thinking I was looking at serious problem. Hope it works out well for you too.
The plug that was fouled in my motor was the bottom on the port side. It seems a little strange that it would foul out while running at 2800 - 3000 rpms.. Maybe at that speed there was a little to much load on the motors since I was barely planing..
