Default flush mount thru hull transducer mounting

i know that this question sounds like it belongs in the electronics forum, but hear me out. i am going to try to figure out a way to install my Airmar 1000W transducer so that it is flush with the keel. i really don't want that ugly high speed fairing block polluting up my keel. What i was thinking of doing was making a female mold of my transducer (a very beefy one), cutting a hole in the shape of my transducer thru my keel/bilge (youch!!), and then epoxying and fiberglassing in the female mold of the transducer in my bilge so that when i mount the transducer, it is flush mounted with the keel. Sound feasible? One worry i have would be how to make the region so that structural integrity is not compromised, as well as keeping hard spots from being created in the region. Has anyone already done this (did it work out?)? i may begin the project manana after i get my bilge pump system installed. Late.

Default flush mount thru hull transducer mounting

Airmar has a new flushmount thru hull transducer with a built in tilted element to compensate for deadrise.

Looks like a great idea and simple to install.

The only issue I can see is making sure it has no way to create bubbles while moving. Bubbles can definitely be caused by a lip/flange or cavity that might be created with your installation idea. Any bubbles at any speed will prevent your sounder from working properly.
