Bay Boat 101,

Go to tidalfish.com and send a PM to DCBen. He has an older 32 Topaz and will be able to tell you about the engines. I went on an overnight offshore trip with him in his ride. Very big for a 32. Very heavy boat. Not a speed demon, but will handle much more than most 32' boats will.

If I remember correctly, the Topaz company was operated by the son of John Trumpy in Annapolis. Kind of an interesting lineage.

Made from 1982-1990, most had Cat 3208's @ 320 or 375 hp; some had Volvo's @ 250 or 307 hp. General consensus is that the Cat's were the better package and cheaper to fix. They are well built - some issues with water or delamination in the forward decks. They have fairly flat aft sections, so the ride is not as smooth in the rough stuff as a Bertram or Blackfin of the same era. With 320 Cats, they cruised at 21-22 kts.
