Default F150 winterizing w/"P" stream then no P stream

OK maybe I am blond but, I was winterizing my F150. Running the engine on the hose hooked to the water intake with adaptor to get Stabil through the filters and injectors. All was fine and then the P stream quit and an alarm went off. Shut down the engine and let it sit for a couple of minutes and restarted. No alarm but also no "P" stream then with in 30 sec to a minute the alarm went off again. Any ideas as I am lost to what happened.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

You are not suppose to run the motor with the hose hooked only to the motor flushing hose. That is for "motor off" flushing. You need to run ears on the lower unit if you want to run the motor.........or you could do what MTCFish does, the ear muffs and another hose to that motor flushing hose.

I did the same thing and I think I melted my impeller pump. Looks like you need to also hook up the rabbit ears if you want to run out of the water. Expensive mistake on my part.

I guess I didn't say it right but I was using the muffs and everything was working excellent and the all of a sudden no "P" and the alarm went off. I shut the engine down and let it sit for a few minutes and retried and still no "P" and still the alarm went off.

what type muffs? did you have a lot of water leaking out around the muffs? did you have enough pressure? it definitely sounds like you lost the impeller to me.......

Was it cold where you may have ice causing a blockage?

You know the alarm means your engine is running hot, and no pee stream suggests it's not getting water. The flushing hose on your engine is for flushing only. Water does get to the water pump, but it's haphazard at best. That's why the owner's manual says not to run the engine when you use the flusher attachment. The fact that you got a pee steam at first only means that you were lucky. Your luck has run out. I'd suggest that you have the impeller inspected before you trust it again.

i had a similar insident happen to me on Saturday when i was winterizing my F225. I was using ear muffs, which i modified to make sure that there was adequate pressure around the water intake to alleviate any water escape out the sides of the muffs. I almost instantly had a a good stream, i ran the engine for about 30-40 minutes in idle before i heard the alarm go off. After this point i decided to quit, however i was still getting a pee stream. Should i be concerned with a busted impeller? I would hate to have to replace it again, it has 3 hours on it.

just out of curiousity, why would you need to run a motor 30-40 MINUTES out of the water?

In my experience with my f100 the slightest movement of the muffs can stop the flow of water to the engine. I would purchase a set with a duel intake and try them, making sure they are right over the intake. I would also first run water with the adapter with engine off ,to fill the system. If no pee after 15 seconds move them around slowly. If still no pee you might need a new pump. Rob
