RE: Ttop help Don't sand it, just wipe it with some acetone and put some silver paint on the bare aluminum, to prevent oxidation until you can get it to a top shop . Any reputable top shop should be able to do the repair without removing the top. I have repaired tops that were in dry storage and had other boats dropped on them , It's kind of like surgery, just the damaged part gets removed and replaced. Do yourself a favor if you want to save money since most places charge by the hour for repair work, remove any wiring in the damaged area and run uninsulated wire from the exsisting wires to past the damage so welding won't affect your top wiring and after the repair just pull the wires back to where they go,this usually takes several hours and at $75-$125 an hour it can add up.Usually the repair only takes an hour or so it's the derigging and re-install of wires and electronics that takes the time, good luck.... |
