Default Is a boat show a good place to buy a new GPS?

Replacing my defunct Micrologic GPS is at the top of my current boating "to do" list. As I get ready to hit the winter boat show circuit, I am wondering if there is any advantage to buying a unit at a show or if I should just gather information. Do you guys think there will be any deals at the shows? Peter

At the NYC boat show you can usually always get a good deal compared to regular retail pricing. One vendor in particular is Consumer Marine Electronics from NJ. They usually offer the best pricing and deals at the show. Most vendors will usually offer some kind of discount. You can shop around right at the show until you find the best deal.

I usually think it is however best if you do your research online for which unit may be best for you and get the regular pricing. Then go to the show armed with the knowledge of the units that interest you see them first hand and get the best price.

I got the Northstar 6000i from the New York City boat show from Consumers Marine for 10% off. Its better than nothing. Plus you can't beat their original prices.

I would suggest that you buy at a boat show after you have done your research. An educated purchase is always better that waht seems like a good deal. That said you can save a lot of money at a Boat Show! Boaters World offered me a Garmin GSD20 for $214 with free shipping.

Now mind you I'm in Canada so.....I don't find the show to have that great of a deal.

I'll do my homework online, get my best prices online, take my notes then head off to the show. Only coming home with something if the price is that good.

Actually I think the shows price is no better than what can be bought in the stores.

TIP:

Now your best deals at the show are on the last day at the last minute. They are better off selling something than it is for them to package it back up and take it back to the store.

Yaahoooooo

If your looking at Garmin electronics, why not check out Yachts By Owner in the Sponsors area. He has good prices and is a sponsor of this forum.

My experience has proven (here in NJ) the best price is always at the big boat shows......hands down! But, know your prices. Never shop blind.
