Default How to clean...

Can you guys help me here? The two base plates for my two rear fishing seats need some attention. The area in middle of the base plate, where the seat pole enters has turned into a bronze color. The plate is white, but the inner hole is what needs help. I am not sure what material it is, nor do I know its original color (i bought the boat used). Can you guys help here?

The link shows what I mean by base plate. Its the area in the middle that needs the attention, not the plate itself.

Thanks!

I believe that area is bronze anyway. I've never seen a plate like that painted white unless the previous owner painted them.

If that area is corroded, wire brush it off and spray a corrosion inhibitor on it. That will keep the spindle lubricated also.

Sorry for the vague answers but not much to go on.

I believe that area is bronze anyway. At least they are that way on my seat pedastals on my small boat. I've never seen a plate like that painted white unless the previous owner painted them.

If that area is corroded, wire brush it off and spray a corrosion inhibitor on it. That will keep the spindle lubricated also.

Sorry for the vague answers but not much to go on.

Thanks Great Laker! I think you may be right about being bronze anyway. Thanks again!

To clean it,use a brass cleaner.Do not use a steel brush on anything in a boat or you will have rust spots everywere.
