A friend who enjoys fishing but is new to boating is considering an out-of-state Parker 2520. It is supposedly at a dealer and not yet rigged with power. It also (supposedly) has never been used. Dealer is supposedly getting out of the business and wants $32K, plus buyer gets it off the lot. Of course, my friend is taking the usual precautons (survey, serial # check, dealer check, etc.).
Aside from that, the main issue is power. I told him about the Yammie 350 4S and he's intrigued. Have any of you Parker owners/dealers rigged the 25 with the 350? If so, what's the verdict?

I would call Yam and see if the single bracket can handle all that weight. If not, I would advise him strongly to consider the 300 Verado. We have grat merc service in our area.

08's are getting 350s, dont know if any hull changes were made but certainly some older ones were rigged with twins that would outweigh an F350 anyway. I agree though, call Parker.
A twin engine bracket disburses the weight over more area on the transom than a single. I would still check with Parker over a F350 repower on a single bracket.
Also, If he wet slips the foot of the motor may sit in the water due to size of the motor and not being able to raise completely.
Zuke 300 is another option that is lighter on weight.
I heard from a dealer that GW bought out the entire 2008 build of F-350's for their 33's and 36's. Yamaha is trying to build more, but they will all be allocated totop boat buildersand none will make it to the repower market.
The Yamaha f350 will not work on the 06 Parker because this engine requires a different bracket (more beefed up and longer) that became available beginning with the 08 model year. If twin bracket, then Yamaha 150s. If single bracket then Zuke 300.
I got an email from Robin Parker telling me that the regular Armstrong single engine bracket on pre'08 Parkers is NOT strong enought to support the new Yamaha 350hp OB. I asked her this as I thought about the 350hp on my 2520DV in the pic below.

That brings up an intersting question. Yam 350 weighs 804 lbs. V Rat 300 weighs 635 lbs.
Yam 350 is .43 Hp per LB
V Rat 300 is .47 HP per LB
So actually the Verado is HP for HP LIGHTER than the Yamaha!
At 170 lbs more weight, is the extra 40 or so HP worth it?? This assumes the Yam is actual 350 HP and Merc underrated the 300 (as they usually do) and it really puts out at least 310 HP.

One would guess that Yamaha can milk many more horses out of this block if they want while the Verado has to be close to maxed out being half the displacement and already supercharged.
The present Vernado has put out 425HP in test however the lower units failed or they could just add 2 cylinders @ 50/ cylinder = 400 HP-- Yes ,I know they will not last same statement as before from Black Bashers
The Merc is strained by making about 1.9 HP per cubic inch. 158 ci 300 hp
Most engines require forged pistons at 2 hp per cubic inch.
The Yamaha is making 1.07 HP per cubic in ALOT less stress on the engine. 325 ci 350 hp
