the albury brothers boat is designed for rough water. The entire idea of the boat is proper center of gravity, weight below the waterline, and lateral stability. Its made to stick to the water and manuever its way through not above. Also, an important thing to take into consideration is how a boat handles when you lose power. The albury does not swing stern to the seas and snap roll. It positions itself at a slight angle with the seas and bobs more like a cork in a stable up and down motion....not so much side to side. The everglades is a nice boat, but still sacrifices ride and stability for more lift and greater speeds.
I have lived in Port Aransas,Tx for two years and 3' to 5' seas seem to be the average, I need a boat that will perform in those seas. I know there are many other variable to consider in a boat ,i need low matience and durability and it seems AB will do the trick.
I've got an Albury 23 presently under construction and I can say making a long distance purchase from them is an easy and pleasurable experience. Jeff Lichterman builds a quality product (use the search function to go back as many years as you wish, you will not find a post saying anything bad about his boats) and without going into any details, certainly believes in doing something extra for the customer.
Making some assumptions on how you'll fish I think the AB 23 is a good choice for the Texas coast. Powerboat Reports had this to say about the Albury: "…the seas had kicked up, throwing consistent 3-footers our way. The Albury excelled in every direction to the sea. We were able to knife through a wind-whipped head sea at 23 mph with minimal pounding. We increased our speed to 28 mph, and while we wouldn’t want to travel at this clip for 10 miles in those conditions, the ride still wasn’t that rough. Overall, our 90-minute trip was pretty dry." The shallower draft will allow to you fish more of the bays and Laguna Madre and you'll have excellent seaworthiness in the Gulf. I think many people just look at transom deadrise and give little thought to the rest of the hull design and what they will do with the boat when they get where they are going. IMO the 'get there on top' deep V's aren't enjoyable at all to fish out of on the drift or rig fish. Being stable at drift and excelling in every direction in 3 footers is pretty good all 'round performance. The downside of the hull design is that she is not as fast as the deep V's.
Check out the website, they currently have a promo going with Birdsall on a free T-top. That's a solid 4 figure savings.

Then you need a Plate Alloy Boat, Bro!
I'll go up against any Aubry, any day.
I'll fish shallow 2-3 feet, and 100 feet deep of ATLANTIC water, in Fla. Threw away all my waxes, cleaners, 2 stroke oils, and went and bought more rods and reels!
You want Versatility?
Get some wood, GO Alloy!

As the proud owner of an Albury Brothers boat I can tell you that they are 'hands down' one of the best built boats on the market plus an exceptional riding vessel in rough water. No offense to the BlackLab folks and JettyWolf but the Alburys are one of the prettiest boats on the water; I sold my Alumacraft a long time ago I can't tell you how many times other boat owners ask me what type of boat I have and say, "what a beauty". It is classic boat design built on the collective experience of over 50 years of Bahamian boatmen who used the boats in every type of condition and for every type of use. You can't say that about many boats on the market.
I ordered my Albury in March of 07 and took delivery in May. Not one issue with the quality and have not had any since delivery. Over 100 hours on it to date and I have had it out in 20+ knot weather and really nasty stuff and it is extremely dry, rides solid. These boats are overbuilt and it is obvious once you hop aboard. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Does anyone have any idea how much the 23 and 27 run out the door. Just curious I may ad them to my list
If you go to their web site http://www.alburybrothersboats.com/ you can price it out with the options you want. Everyone pays the exact same price that is listed. I have checked them all out, actually been looking for about a year. Very fairly priced and extremely over built. Simple well built boats, but the best part is the ride. I was so impressed, not only with the boats, but the owner Jeff, was easy to deal with, and you can tell he has a passion for what he does. I bought a 23 this weekend. As soon as I mail the deposit may the fun begin.
Congrats..Jassman. You're going to love the boat. I have had mine since May and every time I am out on the water I am impressed by the way she rides. What options are you adding to the boat?
I kept it real simple, this will be our second boat, actually the wife's boat, she is the fisherman of the family along with my son. Hardtop blue underside, blue cockpit sole, white hull (still love the blue), stereo, back bench removable backrest, pp privacy curtain, 3 sided wind enclosure, vhf, 4 sp stereo, stern eye bolts..Suzuki 225, but still reserching twin 140-150's. Very excited, great boat, as you allready know. Jeff
