I have a 2006 38 Fountain that I would like to downsize to a 27-33' boat with twins. I just do not go boating-fishing all that much and would like to downsize the payment and fuel cost some.
Anyone here have any pro's and con's on the 32 Fountain?
Also what else is out there that competes with a 32 Fountain as far as fuel cost's, speed, build quality ect?
Take a look at the 29 Jupiter, I understand they will have one at Ft. Lauderdale show.
I saw one in Englewood, seems to be very nice. Had twin 250's, salesman told me the boat would do mid 50's with fuel and gear. Certainly not as fast as your Fountain, BUT WHAT IS.
I looked at Jupiter 31 back at the Miami show and really like the rigging and clean look of the boats. I loved the optional captain bolster seats too. I just found out my Fountain dealer now sells Venture. They seem nice too.
Im looking at the same boat. I rode on the 32 last night but it was like glass out. The sales guy kept turning and running over our wake like he was showing me something. The boat is huge for a 32, fast and effiecient with twins. The prices are getting better all the time. there are several new 2007s being offered at 140k. l

Go venture if you have the cash! IMO their fit and finish and building technique is the best in the production cc world. Then of course you have the ride, and for that you can search venture 34, or just go and ride one. If you do become intrested in venture, also look at Bahama boat works, the creator of Bahama also had a part in creating the 34 venture.
Anyone on here own a 32 fountain CC can chime in on how they handle the rough stuff? Head sea and quartering? I have heard mixed information, some say they will pound and some swear they run on top and you cant get them to pound. Not trying to hijack your thread, figure you want to know also.
Real Screamer - 10/24/2007 10:37 AMI looked at the Venture allso, but there is no rod storage. The dash where electronics go go is not up to par with the rest of the boat.
Now that I think about it, they don't have rod storage. However, I'm sure that they could put a rod rack in the console. As for the electronics area, that is one of the areas that Bahama improved upon.
The ride of a 32' should be very similar to your 38',
except, the 32 & 34 have a 23.5 degree transom deadrise, while the 38 has a 22 degree deadrise,.... also consider that the 38 is really more like a 35-36' boat with its long beak on the bow,,,, and the 32 and 34 do not have the beak, making them true 32, 34' boats.
Go take the boat for a ride, I bet you will be surprised at how well it handles, how stable it is, how dry it is. The boat should handle a following sea and quartering sea just as well as the 38', and I bet that it will handle a head sea a little better than you would expect with the 23.5 degree deadrise
I recently bought a new to me 34' Fountain, I had a twin engine 34', and wanted trips,
I was considering a 38' b/c of the better performance, and extra size, however, I did speak with 2 different people who said that they prefered the ride of the 34 over the 38, they said the boat was less sensitive to tab, and was a more stable boat while running,
Something else you may consider is that the layout, fish boxes, console, gunnel height, cockpit etc. are the same on a 32' as they are on the 38', so basically the only thing you are gonna be giving up it the forward cuddy, a foot of beam, and you will have more in deck storage.
They are also selling the 34' with twin 300 V-rods now, and 350's are on the way.
My twin 34 had 300 xs opti's, and would top out at 63 light, and 58 loaded, this is with open array and outriggers extended (causes about 1 mph speed loss)
The competition might be a 32 YF, but no competitin will out run a Fountain with the same power

I quickly looked over a few Ventures and they seemed real plain with no rear seating or front seating.
I am not wanting a total fishing machine. I would like a sporty center console to cruise and fish in. Fishability would be the least of my worry's.
I had a 2004 36 Concept and like it but it was a very wet boat and had a ton of paint and powder coat issues and the dealer would not stand behind the Concept they sold me. I LOVE my Fountain but I need to downsize my Fountain in size, cost of boat, insurance and fuel.

I'm sure I will get bashed for this but go look at the wellcraft 30 sport...it is very high quality as they try to move into the mid-tier club......if that is too pedestrian for you, the bahama 31 or YF 32 should do for you.....
the 30 Wellcraft sport looks really nice. Kinda of like the layout of the Donzi 35ZFC. What worries me about the Wellcraft is the lack of speed and/or the hull does not seem very efficiant so fuel use will suffer.
