Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
What other manufacturers make a large tiller or utility hull like the Lund Alaskan 2000? I'm looking for a 20' aluminum deep-V hull with a little bit of deadrise that can be purchased pretty barebones.
Re: Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
I'm selling a commercial lobster skiff that is brand new. This boat is 20' x 7'6". It is ready for a tiller outboard. The exterior has vinylester resin so no blisters.
Re: Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
State budget, rivetted boat or welded, and is a weight factor involved (a welded boat will need more HP as it will be heavier, but oh so much nicer)?
Thunderjet used to make up until last year a 17 and 19 open boat called the powerbolt.
very well made welded AL boat and with a large pad and reverse chines making it ride well and very stable, definitely better than a Lund.
yes, more $ than a Lund, but not that much more and no need to worry about leaky rivets in the future.
A good welded AL boat with a touch of maintenace will last forever!

Budget and whatnot is up in the air, I'm trying to figure out what exactly I want. Last boat was a glass walkaround, while we loved it on the big water, I couldn't fish the local rivers anymore. The prior aluminum mod-v was great to beat around, pull up on the rocks and spray out at the end of the day, but it beat you in chop and should have had a jet for the rivers.
I was thinking of buying something open, just a hull and trailer, DIY'ing the layout and getting the motor I want instead of packaging. The only requirements at this point are 20', aluminum and center console. Welded is nice, but 10yrs in my cheap 16' Lowe mod-v never had a leake rivet.
I want to run shallow on the rivers and I understand that in a drought year I might not be able to get a deep-v through the rapids. I also want to be able to hit some inlets and the Chesapeake on decent weather days. I'm thinking jet OB and a kicker for trolling, remove the kicker in the rivers.
RE: Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
BlackLab Marine/Pacific boat can make a 19 tiller model.....because I want one too, and asked
1/4 inch thick all welded hulls and floors.....no carpet or wood B.S.
Dang they are all over the place in the upper west coast.
Google welded Aluminum boats. I've seen so many that would work for me, but since I have a Blacklab and LOVE IT, I'd want them to make me a 19 tiller model.
Your looking for "one off the lot" like buying a car??
Hmm...I don't do that with boats any more, I like it when thery build them "for me".
RE: Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
Yes, Princecraft has a 19 or 20 foot tiller but the HP rating is very low. I need something with a pretty substantial rating to run a good size jet OB. As for cheapy aluminums compared to heavy customs, I have a hard time justifying the cost after having a very cheap Lowe 16' mod-V for 10 yrs that saw hell and salt water.
RE: Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
You can buy a custom boat for not much more than a factory boat and will get so much more. I found that with a boat made to order you save with all the stuff that comes on a mass made boat that you really don't want or need. I put my money in the hull, not the bells and whistles, and have a strong substantial boat that will outlast me. I'm not at all worried about breaking a weld, which I have seen happen in the lighter metal boats.

erikrs301 from Allentown Pa, huh?
I went to high school just south of Easton in Kintnersville. Girlfriend went to Bethlehem Catholic. Gotta love the Catholic schools girls. Are ya' running the river up yonder??
Have you ever heard of Capt Chris Gately? He's in Milford, NJ and Striper fishes the river in a 23' CC BlackLab Plate Alloy boat and a small jet boat. Ardentangler.com is his web site. He'll tell you about BlackLabs...a 20 footer maybe your deal. ROCK PROOF!
But ytou want an off the lot boat? No custom? You must be in a hurry...heck over the winter is when to have a boat made for yourself.
I'd really like to see someone go to Jay at Blacklab and have a tiller boat built. Because I want one toom for creek fishing here in NE Florida with just two passengers. You cannot go wrong, when you put Jay on a new project.
A Blacklab ain't no LUND, SEA ARK, PRINCECRAFT, etc. They are built way different and so much better.
Those Lake Assaults are some nice looking boats that came from the same place them LUNDS are used a lot....up in Minnesota.
Good luck, Interested to hear about where ya fish up there in Pa. and what you catch.
I did the shad, and rockbass in the river as a kid, but now I hear about it being so much better.
Lakeassault.com - 200HP worthy.
Nicer looking than the North River pictured......I like Gunnels!
Re: Who else makes 20' aluminums (besides custom builders)
Jetty- The NorthRivers can come with Gunnels, The owner of the one pictured didnt want gunnels so they custom made that boat specifically for him.
Those blackLabs look nice for big water, but for shallow water... I dont see it happening..
. these open tiller style I listed are designed to run in as little as 4 inches of water when up on plane.. They have 1/4" or better Bottoms.. and come with all sorts of configurations for seating, fish box's, storage etc.
I doubt you see any of the manufactures I listed back east, as they are all boat builders up here in the NW..
