Default Pursuit 3000 Offshore Versus 30' Rampage

I am looking to get some opinions and or comparisons of each boat from owners or those that have spent some time on either of these boats.

Either one will have diesels and be in the late 90's up to '01 or '02 years. I know the Rampage 30' was not made until 1999. Would probably not get one with a tower since we would not use it in the Chesapeake and lower Potomac.

So lets here the pros and cons of each boat.

I had 2 Pursuit 3000 offshore's loved the boat and wide beam but was a little rough in a head sea due to being so wide forward. I had one with Volvo and one with Cummins loved Cummins boat had more power got aprox 1 1/2 mile per gallon at crusing speed that was 28MPH. Liked all the comfort boat had. Both boats were year 2000. Quality and fit and finish was great real quality. If I had to choose between the 2 boats I would pick Pursuit again.

I have the 30 Pursuit offshore 97' twin volvo diesels, not a rocket ship, the head sea issue shouldn't deter you to much.Very economical to operate and fish. The layout I think is one of the best pocket express designs out there. This winter we fished in very rough conditions and its a very stable platform. My boat is for sale and in very good shape (shanless plug). They make for an excellent long weekend cruiser as well.
I also had an 89 Rampage and would beat us with an inch of our lives in moderate seas. However I think the new rampages are diiferent hull entirely. I can not say too much about the newer design as I have not been on one.
Good luck with your search and PM me if you want some more detail on my boat. You will find that my Pursuit is one of the most agressively prices rigs on the market as my slip rental is getting ready to go outta sight

Rampage went to non cored bottoms during the 2001 model year.

R Waddill

Do you accept trades??? Just kidding but that is what will most likely have to happen for us to get into another boat and out of what we have now.

Will probably have to buy from a dealer that will accept trades unfortunately.

The Rampage 30 IS the Shamrock 29 hull. The exact hull. IMHO, that was a teeth rattler. Fit and finish was no where near the Pursuit even though that particular Pursuit was not my favorite.

What size Volvos do you have the 230 or 260hp's Also what are your cruising and top speed numbers along with fuel burn at cruise and trolling speed?

Thanks just trying to get some real world numbers for comparison.

What exactly is the difference between a Cored hull on the Rampage versus the hull construction on the Pursuit?

Inquiring minds or mind wants to know.

Also still looking for some real world fuel burn numbers on the Diesel 3000 Pursuit at cruise and also trolling speeds between 3 to 6mph.

I believe that the Pursuit bottom is solid glass. Not sure about hull sides. Over the years, whether you like a particular Pursuit model or not, their quality has been consistently good. My personal opininion is that this is an apples to oranges comparison where quality is concerned.

So the solid glass bottom in superior to the cored hull. From what I have read in this thread and others about the Rampages and Pursuits that the Pursuit is the better built boat. I just wish that Pursuit would have started the engine models at 300hp and gone up, not at 230hp and gone up. From what I have seen so far the Rampages pretty much came with the 315hp Yanmar and has a nicer cruise speed than most of the 3000 Pursuits with diesels but it is hard to find a 3000 with the 300hp diesels also. Most have 230 or 260 Volvo's.

The Pursuit is a good boat, just stay away from the Volvo 44's. The newer 300hp Volvo's are a good package, but high horsepower Volvo's still scare me. I'd go Cummins if available.

No experience on the Rampage.

You are talking two different things. Rampage has a cored hull but a solid bottom (after 2001). A cored hull above the waterline is usually considered a good thing. A cored bottom which is always in the water has some risks. Most boats in this class built today have coring in the sides but no coring in the bottom. There was a time when coring anywhere was suspect but builders now know how to do this, usually.
