Default Electric trailer winch

I am looking to replace my Powerwinch 912 after 14 years of service.I dont know if i should replace it with another powerwinch or another brand.the boat weighs about 4000lbs loaded.Does anyone have any thoughts on this or have any other experience with other brands such as Dutton Lainson,Warn, etc. any help would be appreciated

I had a Dutton-Lainson this past season.....it didn't hold up,clutch backing plate shattered.I got two months use out of it. Repleced it with a PowerWinch,it performs much better than that Dutton-Lainson did, and they are the same size winch. Now I don't even feel like fixing that waste of money!!

Take a look at these... http://www.warn.com/works/dcwinches/DC4700.shtml Warn has come out with a NEW line of small DC winches; the 1700 DC, 3700 DC, and the 4700 DC. I have owned three Powerwinches (912s) over the years and it was just a matter of time till the clutch went. I will get the 4700 DC in the spring; about $420.00.

Dutton Lainson winch has worked fine on two trailers. It was bought to load a 18ft Dauntless no problem.I now have a 21 ft Conquest and it loads it on trailer with ease.Dutton Lainson appears to be built for heavy duty use.I looked a Powewinch also it did not appear to be built as heavy duty.

SRE:

I've owned four or five electric winches -- all Dutton-Lainson and sold them, along with the trailers they were on. I had only one failure in over 20 years. My boats were trailered and were often in and out more than once each day. I used a 9000 pound winch for a 4-5000 pound boat so the winch was not overloaded. I recommend you do the same.

Mumblerone,,,,Never had a Warn, just never had a problem with powerwinch. I get at least 10 yrs out of them, then put a clutch in, and trailer the boat probably 3 times a week from march to Jan. Had a D_L once and it didn't last a summer.

We have Rule winches on all our service trailers. They get a lot of use as most of our storage boats are setting on the ground and need to be winched off in the fall and back on in the spring/summer. Then they are off loaded onto boatstands for bottom paint and winched back on a trailer for delivery. Have had no failures.

The Misses is trying to talk me into one; I'd go to StrongArm if I make the move.

Garett:

If you do decide to get one, slip over to C-ME marine in Buffalo. I priced my last one here in Toronto and it was close to $800.00. The same winch at C-ME was $289.00 (US). I could never find out why the difference was so great!
