Default 2003 250 HPDI won't idle?

Hello, I am a newbie to this site and am looking for some help. I have a 03 250 hpdi that won't idle???
After I start it, the motor will run for a few seconds and then die out. The weird thing is that it dosen't happen all the time. Sometimes the motor will idle fine. However, more times than not, the motor dies out. I had brought the motor in for repair and the dealer just changed the plugs. This did not fix the problem... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank YOU

Yamaha has a "recall" on those motors for the oil pump. See your dealer. With the pump installation, the throttle bodies get adjusted and synchronized and the throttle postion sensor is adjusted and tested. Get that done if it hasn't been already, then you know that the idle adjustments are correct. A compression test is included also. That way you will know the condition of the motor and Yamaha is doing it under warranty.

Eyes,

I suspect your problem may be fuel related, maybe a filtration or pump issue. SIM (Andy) on the Shipyard Island vendor forum was recently extremely helpful to me when I had a fuel system issue on my 03 250HPDI. Apparently, much more fuel system maintenance is required than I had been performing. If you are "handy" at all, you can do these yourself. He can also tell you if your engine qualifies for the oil pump update. Mine did. Because of his help and advice and extremely competitive parts prices, my engine has never run better. Andy is the MAN! My favorite Yankee. Best of luck.
