If you are asking about Baja boats that are built in Ohio (and not Baha - built in Florida), then the answer is yes, they are good boats. Baja has been around a long time building quality high-performance boats.

BUT - be sure you have the spelling right as I do not believe Baja (Ohio) makes center console boats.

I'm pretty sure that Baja does make center consoles. Don't know much about them, but you may want to check out the Concepts and Scarabs, too, if you're looking for that type of boat.

Member Proakvoan has a 28' CC Baja. It has the cuddy up front that I'm not real found of for my style of fishing, but other than that it's a sweet looking ride. Send Paul a PM or he may chime in.

Baja doesn't make a center console. You must be referring to Baha.

I was seriously considering a 2008 Baha 296 about a week and a half ago and I am still considering it.

I have done lot of research since. I can tell you that their 2008 build quailty is not as bad what some of the member say it is.

Most of these bad Baha information dates back almost a decade ago. Which I find irrevalent to a 2008 build.

Since your friend is considering a 98. That is within the time frame of the bad Baha's information. Have a well qualified surveyor comb tooth through it.

Baja does build center consoles (or did). Nice boats. More creature comforts then a hardcore fishboat but very fishable.

BaJa doesn't build center consoles anymore.
The BaJa 28 CC was recently sold under the Boston Whaler commercial division

Baja 280 Sport Fisherman.

Baja is definitley a reputable brand. However given the age of the boat and the type of construction. No one on THT is qualify to tell you the "current" quality of this boat. If your friend is serious. He seriously need a survey done.

Construction
End Grain Balsa Core Construction
Hand-Laid 3610 Knit Laminates
MaxGuard Premium Gelcoat
Plexus Bonding w/Thru-Bolts
Plywood Interlocking Grid Stringer System
- Fully Encapsulated
Vinylester Resin Barrier Coat

Baja is owned by Brunswick and they made center console boats for many years. It appears that those models have been discontinued in 2007.

I have looked at a few of the 230/250 Sportfish models over the years and they seem like a decent boat. 24 degree deadrise transom, plenty of features, etc.

I always thought the 28' boat looked a little awkward with that bracket and the console set so far to the stern. Must be an OK boat, however, it was built for several years.

I have not ridden in the CC but the hull is the same as the performance boat and it isnt the fastest but a very soft ride.

I owned that boat for a few years. The boat was fast, stable and not that wet However, I sold the bot after a very rough day in a fishing tournament in which I was up to my ankles in water in the cockpit. IN my opinion, it is NOT a self bailing boat. Hence, after that day, I decided I wanted out of the boat. If the bilge pumps fail, you are in big trouble if you bury the bow.

They are a fair to good boat. I had a 28cc with 225 efi Merc's. and was very fast @ 65mph, but the 8' beam takes away the fishing room way too much. They do have wood in them so I would advise a survey. My floor delaminated at the t-top area due to uncured resin. I called Baja, they said bring it to Ohio and we'll fix it. The boat was in SC at the time, but a month later I brought it back to Ohio, a week after that they called and put a completely new liner in the boat. The work was perfect and I thought they were very good to work with. At today's prices they are a good value for a "cool" and fun ride, but please don't think they are tournament ready boats. If you can find one with 225 opti's, you'll have a very fun ride. Good luck.

Baja did and still might make the center console. My friend has a Baja 25' sportfisher with a 250 merc and it runs great. Very nice cruising boat too. It has a great reversible setup in the stern for either fishing or cruising, deep console for stowage or potty and that typical Baja look. Nice boat. They are still made with wood, ( there are pro's and con's there) and I believe have been discontinued.

I was only referring to model year 2008 which I didn't find any current infomation that states Baja still built a CC. If they did - can you link us to their 2008 line up.

Heres a link to a test of the 250 with video that shows the nifty flipping rear seat setup.

Baja also made a 34 foot Center Console that I have.

The first couple of years they had them in the "Islander" line up that is now the open bow runabout boats. Mine has a 340 Islander sticker on the side.
In newer model years they started calling them a 340 Sportfish.
