Default new water pump impeller

I put in the new impeller today and i think i screwed something up.When i put the hose on the motor and start it i have water leaks at the seam between the lower unit and the midsection.I don't remember if this was happening before the impeller change. It does not overheat but the water psi gauge looked a little low.Am i supposed to have water coming out of there?

did you have water coming out of there before?

Most likely the tubes are not properly aligned and are leaking like a sieve.

Petros, It sounds like you missed part of the rubber grommet. When you joined the upper part to the lower unit you have to guide the copper water tube into the rubber grommet that sits on top of the water pump. If the tube is not aligned properly you will get the situation that you have now. Carefully drop the L/U and check and see if the water tube aligns with the grommet. No gasket is needed between the two units. Let us know how you make out.

If it's an Evinrude or Johnson they probably gave you the wrong water pump. Some of the pumps for older models have a small relief hole in them. If your rude or johnson is a 91 or 92 and up it gets the pump without the relief hole in it. I had an 87 or 88 that did the same thing though and it cooled fine. Good luck. A little more info might help though. Mine are 225's.

I just did mine and the same thing happened. Although it is OK for some water to come out of there I was getting alot. When I dropped the lower unit again and took the pump housing apart I found that the cup that fits inside the house had moved and closed 3/4 of the opening where the water goes up the pipe. I had water coming out of the Tell Tale but the engine still over heated. To test it the mechanic at the shop told me to let it idle for 10 minutes, if it is going to over heat it will and it did. The alarm on the newer motors goes off before any damage is done to the motor.

That's normal. I've always had water come out of there.
