I will admit it, I am pretty anal when it comes to my toys. I like to keep them looking pretty for as long as I can.Every year when I haul my boat after it is winterized I will wax both the inside and the outside of the hull. Then come Spring I will wax again.Do any of you others do the same thing? When do you wax your boat?

Re: How many of you Wax in the Fall and the Wax again in the Spring?
Never waxed a boat in 20 plus years of boating. Haven't waxed a car in at least fifteen years. I have enough trouble finding time to use the boat, do all of the maintenance on the engine and trailer, paint the bottom, keep my tackle in shape, etc.
My theory is that the layer of oxidation that I allow to build up will protect the gelcoat. If I ever sell the boat, I'll pay a detailer to compound the boat, and it should look like new.
That being said, I'm thinking about paying someone to detail my boat this spring, just before launching. It would be nice to see the boat as clean as when I purchased it for a change.

I waxed my boat last spring.......as in last year. The boat is stored indoors and shines like I just finished buffing it a day ago. I will probably rewax it this fall just to keep from feeling guilty after reading these types of threads.

Yep, a wax job in early March and a wax job again in early October. I'm mainly a fisherman and I fish early March to June and then again October thru January.
My theory is that it’s easier to keep wax on the boat and be left with a quick rinse clean-up than it is to not wax and end up scrapping the crap off the sides of the boat and decks every time I come back in from fishing. It’s a pay me know or pay me later type of proposition
Re: How many of you Wax in the Fall and the Wax again in the Spring?
My ritual...every March & September.
Collinite cleaner wax (#920) then paste (#885) on the outside hull & gunnel tops & some other face up spots.
Collinite cleaner wax (#920) then liquid fleetwax (#870) everywhere else.
metal wax (#850) then insulator wax (#845) on the metal (t-top, rocket launchers, bow rail, cleats, & outriggers). The insulator wax makes a big difference protecting the metal. If you do the 850, definitely get the 845 & seal the metal back up. The 845 opens the metal up a bit.
Takes about a day to do the boat, but it's worth it.
Sure is a lot easier to spray the salt & blood off than to have to scrub every trip.
I should get to her this weekend. Overkill?? Probably so. I do get lots of comments on how clean she is though.
All electrical connections & pumps get a wiggle check & dose of corrosionX at this time as well.
Take care of her and she should take care of you.

Finman, I'm as anal as you about keeping my toys as pretty as possible. I wax every three months-inside and out, as well as protect the stainless steel (more often, however). I have a cover on my boat as well. Cleaning the inside is a pain, however. I think Woody Wax would help, but I have heard that's it's not easy to put on and easy to put too much on. So I am using Star Brite inside protector for now.
