Default What RPM's Should I be Turning? Yamaha F225's on Pursuit 2870

Does anyone know what the RPM's should be at WOT on a pair of F225's? I'm hitting approx 5700 - 5800. Should I be getting more?

Boat is a Pursuit 2870. Maybe someone else out there has one with the F225 and can advise the best props for this set up.

That is about right as long as that is loaded, and not "Light" The RPM range for those motors is 5500-6000. They should be able to reach 6000 easily if light and be close if loaded. If you are at 1/2 tank and 1 person when you get to 5800, what do you get with 3-4 people, ice gear and a full tank of gas?

Yamaha wants their engines propped so that you are near or at redline (6000 RPM in your case) with a normal to heavy load. If you are someday operating with a light load on a cool day then it is your job to keep the engine(s) from over speeding.

If your boat is fully loaded and you are getting 5800 at WOT that is close enough.

Read your owner's manual. The manual for my F250 says to choose a prop that allows the engine to operate at the middle to upper end of the operating range at WOT (when fully loaded). 5700-5800 is definitely the "middle to upper end".

The operating range for the F250's is 5000-6000 RPM at WOT. My Grady White Marlin gets 5500-5700 when fully loaded...and 5600-5800 with a light load.

According to the manual, maximum horsepower is produced at 5500 RPM, so there is no net gain in power with those few hundred extra RPM.

I just bought the boat used, so I didn't have the manuals. I'm spinning that 5700 - 5800 with full fuel and gear. I'm sure that with a light load I'd get 6000. Guess I'm good to go. Thanks.

The WOT range for the Yamaha F225 is 5000-6000 RPM. If you fall within this range you are within factory spec, but most will agree it is best to be near the upper end of this range. If you hitting 5700-5800 RPM you are just about perfect.
