Default moving to Florida

Hey, everybody!
I'm looking for some advice here. I'm currently living in Puerto Rico and, of course, am an avid boater and blue water fisherman. In October, my wife and I will be heading out to the Jacksonville area in search for work. At the moment, I'll consider any place there's work. However, I'm taking my boat with me, so if there's anyone out there who can tell me about the boating in both east and west coasts of Florida, I'd be very appreciative. Please bear in mind that since down here we get beach and boating weather year round, I'd be looking for an area with similar conditions.

Thanks!!!!

Jacksonville - not really beach weather November through March. However the upside is that you get the relief of cool weather for a while. Not too bad, a half dozen nights with heavy frost so you have to throw sheets over your sensitive plants.

Deep "blue water" fishing will take you 75 miles off shore, again an upside is that you get great creek, ICW, river, fishing for trout, flounder, redfish in some very pretty scenery without having to put up with concrete jungles. Nearshore is healthy enough - however some species seem to be getting harder to find.

Living wise - Jacksonville is one of those places where folks don't want to re-locate to, but once they do they don't want to leave. Happens every single time in my company. You struggle to get people to come here. Once they have been here and you want them to relocate somewhere else they won't move! It's a great locale for raising a family. More south Georgia feel to it than Miami/Boca/Clearwater/St Pete.

You pays your money and you takes your choice! What sort of job are you looking for?

The weather in Jacksonville will not be as warm "year round" as it is in Puerto Rico. My mom is from Mayaguez, PR, I go 2x a year, so I know. For me, who loves to boat and fish, the best is in the southeast of Florida. I live in the West Palm Beach area and you are in very fishable waters only miles from the shore. The bahamas is 1-2 hours away. I assume 'que tu hablas espanol', and thus will be very marketable in this area with the large Hispanic market.

Send me a PM if you need any help as I'm always happy 'a asistir un boricua'.

Like Jax alot even though I am from Miami. That aside, I think you can forget about boating on the west coast of Florida if you decide to live in Jax. I've toured the area by land many times and once on the river. Seems like there is quite a bit of nice inland waterway.

Menzies
Thanks for the input. both my wife and I are in banking. We're starting out in Jacksonville because we both have family living in St. Augustine. However, we're REALLY open to anything further south.

Thanks, Anthem

Both my wife and I are in banking and are fullly bilingual. I'd love to move to Florida's southeast just for the weather. We're at the research portion of the move right now. However, we'll be there in October hopefully for some interviews (keeping our fingers crossed). Gracias por tu ayuda!!

As far as Jax/St.Aug you can boat year round. For me oct/nov is some of the best times. With a 22' you can fish the rivers and fish offshore. Great bottom fishing most months except jan/feb and in summer you can take a small boat in the ocean for tarpon/kings/sailfish within 15miles of shore. If you get into the offshore thing the 'ledge' is 50nm offshore and hosts great wahoo fishing in winter and great sailfish/marlin/dolphin action in spring and summer.
