Default Rough water ride...Skeeter vs. Kenner / Blazer Bay hull

Anyone out there that can speak first hand on the rough water rides in these bayboats ( that has actually been in both ). I know how my Blazer handles rough water, but am curious on how the Skeeter ride compares. I threw Kenner in there since their hull is near identical to the Blazer.

How does your blazer handle rough water? What model do you have?

2170....It does very well in choppy water. Ive been caught in some pretty sloppy stuff and it does a good job.

I can only vouch for my boat. I havent been greater then 2' ers yet but i launch over them in the 50 mph range. I bought my boat from a guide in CT. He gets the identical boat every year. I have his 2006 but my uncle was fishing with him in his 2007 in 4' ers and he said he didnt feel like they were in any danger. Off course the boat was pounding but the ride was decent for a bay boat in 4' ers.

My friends skeeter zx20 will break your teeth fillings in anything more than a foot chop. Even a foot chop the ride is unacceptable. 2 weeks ago I fished in a 24 skeeter that was better than the zx20 but I was unimpressed with it. We were wondering why the bilge was a constantly running. Look in the engine compartment and the hose for the bait tank had split open like a aneurysm. Very low grade tubing for a boat that is suppose to be guide material. The kenner I rode on years ago was a 21 fter that had a good ride. I don't remember the fit and finish. I have not been on a blazer bay but like the look of the hull.

What you stated about the 20 ft. Skeeter is exactly what I have heard before from one person, that I spoke with at a boat show ( and he was an owner ). He stated that he loved the look and layout of the Skeeter, but choppy water was not its strongpoint.

I am very happy with the ride so far coming froma 2002 polar bay (to be expected right?)that was tough as nails and got me through the shi% many times.I also agree with the asthetics and great layout. Its a pretty boat. The fit and finish topside isgreat butwhats below deck is average. The bow and stern casting decks are huge and ample storage. Is it top of the line? no. Its a good average boat that looks better then it really is. I have driven many bay boats and bass boats of various different sizes and i know i got a big motor on the back but its by far the quickest boat i have ever driven out of the hole with out tabs. The boat has a good solid feel to it.They can definately improveon a lot of things.I will check my livewell hoses next time i am at the boat. Thanks for the info!!

2nd the Champion 24 Bay Champ. Great ride, plenty of storage and good fit and finish. I wish I had kept mine and may have to order a new one.

Look at the Bay Cat also made by bass cat boats. I fish in Lake Norman which is a huge lake and durring the summer we have to deal with the 40ft+ crusier wakes that like to plow water and it handles those big wakes great at 45mph, now normal size boat wakes it goes over them at WOT around 65mph just fine cant even feel them, let me know if you want more info on it.

I ran a Skeeter ZX24 for a few months last fall. It had a 300 and was flat out fast. Ride not bad for a bay boat. At 1 to 1.5 foot chop I could run nearly flat out. 2 foot pounding started. Over 3 just had to run slow and get back safe. 4 foot the boat stayed at the dock. Quality was fair. The boat was also a guide boat so it had lots of hard use. Rusting SS already and a some small broken trim issues.

Curt, I am glad that you sold it. But you can't have it back. I like it way too much.

You bought Blain's 2005 and i bought his 2006. I had the same hardware problem but i managed to clean it up pretty good.I am anal with asthetics so i took apart all of the lift assist shock on the hatches to clean everything out. The underside of all of the latches also were starting to corrode so i did the same with them.It came out ok but i have to keep up with it!The boat is a 6-7 out of a 10 compared to other top bay boat manufacturers. If you can find a good deal on a used one it'snot a bad boat.
