People like to hate on Grady's cause they can't afford them.
Nobody hates a boat, they hate people that think their $hit doesn't stink because they paid too much for a boat.
That same thing can be said about any boat really. Take a look at Contender owners. It's not that people think their shit don't stink because they paid too much for a boat. They are proud of what they have. I't even worse with cars. Ever talk to a Ferrari owner?
Yes, I own a 20 year old Grady, that is in great shape. How many 20 year old Trophy's or Bayliners are out there that can say the same.

to others: I LOVE GWs - next to a Parker probably my favorite! BUT I don't care who makes it, if it's 2yrs old and got structural cracks (cracks along joints ARE structural and spiderwebs and/or in random patterns are PROBABLY gelcoat issues) it' got a problem.
ANAL??? As far as accepting a damaged boat..... no way!!!! My little 17' Al rig was returned twice to the factory and finally accepted on their third try. If you think it's OK to pay for damaged goods your on your own; ESPECIALLY if you pay $40k for 17 footer! It's it's been SCUFFED I'm NOT accepting it..sorry -there's no telling what damage was done to the laminate......Chips in the gelcoat are debate-able..
Folks cracks are a BAD thing....... ANYBODY above, who says they are normal and not to worry about it is clueless, hasn't owned a boat for more than a few years, are kin to PSW.... or is a salesman. Fiberglass cracks do not get better, only worse. I've helped build 3 boats, built 1, remodeled 1 (3 different ways) and I'm about 1/2 way finished refitting a 25'er. I've repaired punched, ripped, and crushed fiberglass and I've built with it (no i didn't include gelcoat repairs)...........cracks ARE B.A.D.
I'm not going to comment about something I have never seen, but I find it hard to understand how in today's computer world, anybody can turn over a damaged product for a third party repair without taking a good set of digital pictures for their own reference, legal or otherwise.
It would also be in the repair contract that digital pictures be taken to show the extent of the damage and the repair. I wouldn't just give someone a crack and take it back just because it was covered up.
I kinda agree will Bill on this one. Again without seeing the photos all we can do is speculate, however I don't think it is too much too ask to purchase a new boat without cracks (structural or otherwise).

My grady is almost 20, too. Its not worth repowering a trophy, you would just get a new one.

Ever hear of a Trophy with a rotted transom? Mine has a lifetime warranty against transom rot, does yours? Ever see a post from a Trophy owner complaining about gelcoat cracks? Mine doesn't have a single crack, does yours?
Telling yourself that something is better because it's more expensive doesn't make it true, a few hours of Google will expose the unbiased truth about many so-called "top tier" production boats.

you sure about that ??? remember,i know the surveyor who did that boat very well...where you had that boat stored, those guys are real good buddys of mine too...
ANY mfg will have problems with their hulls,gw certainly isn't above having problems...wanna discuss the delam problems gw has had ??? simple fact, all boats are overpriced...

Agreed, you don't always get what you pay for. My first Porsche was in the shop 17 times in 2 years of ownership. Needless to say that was my last Porsche, too.
On the other hand, I hear very, very few bad things about Grady boats.

That doesn't say much, consumer opinion on Bayliners Trophys are so bad Bayliner HAD to put a lifetime warranty on their transom to lure customers into buying their crap. Just like Dodge and their lifetime warranty BS, we all know that Chrysler isn't gonna be around for very much longer so they could offer a double life warranty on their cars and it won't matter. Ever heard of Hyundai touting their 100k mile 10 year warranty crap? Its always the shitty cars that have the "BIG" warranties.
What does Lexus offer? like 5 year 60k miles or something like that? Its cause when you buy a Lexus, you don't need that big warranty crap, you know you're buying the most reliable cars in the business and reputation is all it needs.

Consumer opinion? Who the hell cares what anyone else thinks, I'm spending my money, not theirs. Spoken like a true "top tier" owner, it's all about what everyone else thinks, construction and component details don't mean squat, it's all about the bling. And for your information, I didn't even know my Trophy had a lifetime transom warranty until I talked to the dealership service department after letting my bracket fill with water. So it's not used to "lure" customers, it's just another example of Trophy using the best components available to build a no-frills fishing machine.

Dodge makes the most reliable diesel pickup on the market and Hyundai has the majority of the Asian market. Unlike your transom, your example of "$hitty" cars doesn't hold water.

A Lexus is just an overpriced Toyota, there isn't a lick of difference in the components or the construction. By using Lexus as your "top tier" example, you proved what I've been saying all along, some people buy a more expensive model thinking it's "better" when in reality, the differences are purely cosmetic.
I'm glad you're happy with your pissant little boat but don't get on a high horse with me about it, teak trim and gelcoat under the hatches don't even register on my quality scale.

Correction buddy, Cummins makes one of the most reliable ENGINES for a consumer truck on the market, unfortunately its stuffed inside a shitbox truck called the RAM. Ask any owner of a Cummins RAM, they will tell you the truck falls apart around the engine, the transmission sucks too. The engine is good for 300K miles, but the truck is good for only 40k if that before it goes to hell.
You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to Lexus do you? Same construction? Same Components? Please go read up a little more on how a Lexus is built and how a Toyota is built then report back here.
A Lexus an overpriced Toyota? Wow typical of a Bayliner owner calling anything of quality "Overpriced". Bayliner owners can't differentiate between a well made boat, or a crappy one, a well made car and an average one, thats why they always whine that everything out of their reach is "OVEPRICED". I'm sure Toyota has 380hp Rear Wheel Drive sedans in there line up too correct? Oh wait...they don't. I'm sure Toyotas have pre-collision systems, radar cruise control, self-parking guidance, infared body temp sensors, massaging rear seats, and 8speed transmissions? Nope..but Lexus does. Lexus also tops every conceivable quality tests ever made, I'm sure its exactly the same as a Toyota.
Bayliner owners are the type of crowd that would call a Porsche 911 Turbo an overpriced VW because both will get them from point A to point B.

That's not entirely true. Lexus adds more soundproofing, features/options, etc. Also, the service after the sale is much, much better with a Lexus or Acura than with Toyota or Honda (same with Infitini vs. Nissan).
I bring in the BMW for service and it's like going to the spa. I get treated well, and get a free loaner regardless of what I'm getting done. It's also not a Dodge Neon, it's another BMW. When I bring my Subaru in for service, even warranty work, I don't get squat. Of course that's built in to the price of the higher end car, but customers are aware of that before they write out the check.

Positive. You know those guys so well, you should know what is or isn't wrong with it. It needs the transom redone, that's it. Like I said it's a 20 year old boat, it's not brand new.

My father has owned 5 Dodge diesels and not one of them has fallen apart at 40K miles. Since GW and Lexus don't make diesel pickups, what's your "top tier" pick for diesel pickups?

Same manufacturing plant, same frame thickness, same sheetmetal thickness, same glass thickness, Toyota motors, Toyota transmissions, Toyota transaxles, Toyota electric door/window motors, Toyota AC units, etc.

Lexus is the highest profit/vehicle sold, if that's not overpriced, what is your criteria? Again you are focused on the add-on features while I am talking about the components and construction, same thought as paying a premium for Corian countertops, teak trim, etc., in a boat that develops stress cracks and rotted transoms, price doesn't equal quality except to those that believe that marketing strategy.
All this leads to fat profits. Last year the average Lexus dealer sold 1,280 new vehicles, at an average price of $42,503, for new car sales of $54 million. (Ray Catena's New Jersey dealership, the third-largest in the nation, had 2003 sales of $200 million, including service and parts.) Lexus dealers average a gross profit of $3,500 per vehicle--higher than that of any other mass-market luxury brand, according to Sheldon Sandler, managing partner of Bel Air Partners, a Skillman, N.J. investment firm that brokers sales of auto dealerships. That's an average of $4.5 million in gross profit from new car sales. Now add the revenue from service, parts, financing, insurance and used cars. "It's a license to mint money," Sandler says. "When you and I die, we should hope to come back as Lexus dealers."
Substitute Grady White for Lexus in the above paragraph and see if it resonates.

I wouldn't make that comparison but I'd buy a new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 over a Porsche 911 Turbo for many of the same reasons articulated above. Impressing others with how much I spent isn't as important to me as bang-for-the-buck, Corvette to Porsche and Trophy to GW are perfect examples.

I'm no Grady fan by any means, although some do have some nice features. But, one thing is for sure Grady will stand behind the guy's boat! I don't think he will have any issues as far as that goes.
You guys fight over so dumb things. Grady White makes a good boat, yes. Those problems need to be sorted out; if I pay their stupid prices for their boats I would expect it to be perfect. Lexus and Toyota are rubbish, there is less plastic in a tube of Lego’s than in a LX470. Lexus stands for Luxury export to united states, its nothing but a fluffy Toyota. Corvettes are trush heaps, geaxbox came out of a tractor, motor from a midevil farm cart, and the handling is a little worse than my boat. Honda and Acura build great cars, but remember you are still buying second best to the European cars. Trophy are turning into an overpriced boat just like anything else "Big B" makes. I mean $100,000 for a 25ft center console that’s a Baylinner, I don't think so. Too much, plus a pile of dog pooh has better resale value. People use to buy Baylinners as their first boat, gets you started than you go drop the big bucks on other boats, if they would stick to that market appeal they will survive. No company can offer perfection like S2 Yachts (Tiara and Pursuit), well for the price anyway, Rybo can do it too. If you want a boat that will last a lifetime buy a Tiara. Buy a GW if you want a top end smaller boat. Buy a Trophy if you want to get into boating.
I sell Exotics for a living, I will sit here and argue cars all day.

Im trying to get the pics, or if you're in the neighborhood stop by the dealer and check it out. its in in mt. pleasant sc still at the dealer.
