Default Used Boat Prices, East Coast vs. West Coast, Why Such a Difference

I am moving from Texas to Seattle in Sep so have begun looking for a trailerable walkaround and have noticed significant differences in used boat prices. Why such a difference? Other than the headache of shipping a boat from the East Coast to Seattle, it looks like I can get a much better deal on the East Coast. Just thought I'd inquire as to the reasons why. Thanks.

Just a wild guess, but i would say it's just a function of the general cost of living, and the supply. There probably just aren't as many boats out there, so less competition. Maybe not as many casual boaters? Again, just a guess.

The east coast marine market has always been different from us guys on the left coast.

Overall, more boats. Tons more diesel boats there too. But not as many ski boats.

Keeps it interesting...

I sold a 30foot Bayliner last year and noticed the same thing. West coast prices were so much higher I actually was wondering if it would be worth it to ship the boat to the west coast and sell it there. The price differential even included the state of Washington where Bayliners are manufactured. I never figured out how a boat that was made in Washington and then shipped to Massachusetts could sell for less than the same boat in Washington.

You got lots o dat Microsoft money out there and the boat manufacturers know it. Then it trickles down to the used boat market.
