 Should I trade down?
I am wondering if I should sell the current older boat and buy a newer (used) smaller boat. I am looking for better speed and mpg.
We currently have a very nice 1990 38' Mediterranean flybridge. It is powered with Detroit 82-T's and gets 1 NM per gallon @ 14 knots, WOT is 20 knots.
I would like to up the speed to a 20-25 knot cruise while getting better mileage (1.5+) and I believe a 32-34 FB with the newer diesels will do this. Am I correct?
What FB boats should I look at in this size?
We like everything about the current boat but those two items keep me from using the boat on a regular basis for fishing. We use the boat almost every weekend at the slip as a condo and fish it once a month on average while fishing my skiff offshore at least once a week to save on fuel.
Doing the math - Fishing trip on Med is $450 for fuel and a 4 hour ride, a new boat hopefully would be $300 and a 3 hour ride @ 20 knots if conditions are decent.
