Default 2002 2700CC Triton /Twin 200 Merc Optimax

My new boat search continues. I went on a sea trail today in some good chop and a 20MPH wind .. The boat handled pretty well... I have never been on a boat with Mercury Optimax they seem much louder than Yamaha or ETECs I have been on... I hear this is normal for Mercury... Is anyone running the 200 Optimax Saltwater engines and if so how do you like the ? Any information on Triton 2700CC would be helpful also. The Triton seemed to be very well built solid boat..

Thanks,
Vin

Can't comment on the Triton or 200 Opti's, but I had 225 Optis on the boat I just sold. They were strong as can be and very reliable. I would not hesitate to have a boat with them again.

What year were your 225 Optis ? How many hours did you have on them ? Did you find them a little loud compared to other 2 strokes ?

Thanks,
Vin

I had the 200 opti for 2 yrs and it was a great motor. My next boat I put etecs on it 2 x 200's and could not believe the difference in sound reduction and the etec sound signature. If I had to choose I would prefer the etecs for less noise but they are both great motors. A mate of mine had just fitted one of the next generation optis 6 months ago to his boat and it sounded the same as my old opti. I went etecs because I have a certified dealer to repair them only 5min away, and so far they've been good.

I have 2002 twin 200 Opti's and couldn't be more pleased, they are approaching 700 hrs. They are excellent on fuel, awesome power, very stingy on oil, but, they are definately the quietest motor out there. Have had very few issues with them.

I can give you plenty of info on Tritons and Mercs if you would like, I have been running them for a few years and have absolutely no regrets.

Send me a pm or email for additional information.

Is that the boat brokered by Wells Yachts in MA?

Looks like a heck of a deal, I spoke to them about it but it's a bit too big for my slip.

I've got an '07 Triton 2895CC w/twin Verado 250's. I've put almost 70 hours on it since I took delivery in April and its been absolutely flawless -- not a single problem at all, it runs brilliantly in the rough and the verados are awesome, the fit and finish are great, and for me its a perfect blend of hard-core fishing boat and family fun boat. I couldn't be any happier.
