115 johnson ocean pro won't plane off

I have a 19 ft. Stratos cc that I bought in 1998 with a 115 johnson ocean pro 2 stroke. I have never had one minutes trouble untill yesterday. Moter cranks no problem, idles ok, but when you try to get up on plane it starts missing and runs terrible. Also noted that the tach does not work, tried removing gas filler cap to make sure tank was venting, no change. Bulb seems to stay firm, and plugs only have 10 hours at the max on them. Checked water seperator, no water as to speak of, what next ? Fuel pump or pick up tube in built in tank . How hard is the fuel pump to change ? Thanks for any info.

If the tach suddenly stopped working, your alternator may not be charging the battery since the tach gets its signal from the alternator. (the tach not working is a classic symptom of a fried alternator) If the alternator is not working, your battery may have low enough voltage that its causing the ignition to fire poorly.

Also, regardless of how much time you have on your plugs, you should check them. Anything can happen, including a bad plug.

Sure, the power pack can cause all sorts of ignition related problems.

Yes, but the tach not working is usually the 1st clue that it is the problem
