Default Care and feeding of painted hull

Ahoy, all

Did a search and all that turned up were threads on painting the hull. My new-to-me boat is painted a dark green from the chine to the rub rail and it's getting chalky. What do I clean it with? I almost started compounding or using nasty chemicals, but vaguely remembered reading somewhere that you can't treat painted hulls exactly like plain gel-coated ones.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

it is very important that you find out what it was painted with....if it is an awlgrip product, they have their own wax/sealer...
