Anybody Running Mercury 300XS ? - The Hull Truth

Don't want to start anything, I am just looking for feedback from those running Mercury's 300XS. I am contemplating a repower and trying to feel all my options. Just wondering about efficiency, noise and durability. Any input would be appreciated !

Guy on the slip next to mine has a 38 foot fountain CC with. 4 mercury racing 300hp Opit's He LOVES the things.

Ill have to get a pic. 1200 hp and they are racing engines. he says they are more like 340hp each. (can that be true?)

INSANE boat. I took a ride from Stamford the other day and made Oyster bay in something like 7 minutes... but I wasnt letting go to keep track of the seconds hand!

I think THT member "propbender" just put a pair on his 34 fountain...as I recall he loves them too.

They are great, I have twin 300 opti's on a 34' Fountain, The boat performs as well as the 34's with trip 225 opti's,
I love the sound of these engines and they are actually relatively quiet.

Fuel burn is 25 gph each at WOT, and they burn 9-10 gph at 4000 rpm. No other outboard out there can touch the fuel economy

Mine use premim plus oil at 40:1, but I buy it from Academy for $17-20 a gallon

Mine now have over 400 hours, and not one hiccup. But, i have recently popped a gearcase, (sportmaster, but they are mounted very high, and we were running very heavy and I think it just got hot)

I have no regrets whatsoever, well accept, a 3rd 300 xs would be nice on my rig
