Default Yamaha F225 - Do you change the filter when you change the oil?

I was reading the owners manual for the Yamaha F225 4 stroke and it indicates to change the oil every 100 hours. Then I noticed that it shows to change the oil filter every 200 hours. I have never noticed this before and have approx. 400 hours on the motor. Of course I've changed the oil & filter 5 times already (counting break-in). Have I wasted money on unnecessary oil filters? Or is it just a safe pratice to insure good engine performance? I've never heard of anyone changing a car's oil and not changing the filter. I just found this to be kind of strange. Any Yamaha techs out there have an opinion?

Before you change your oil check the color. If the oil is still clear, changing the oil filter every second time is fine. Changing the filter every time is over kill, the same would apply to cars.

Change my filter, every oil change. No reason not to. Doesn't make sense to me to use a dirty filter with brand new clean oil. Same for my cars. Never changed the oil without changing the filter, EVER.

Actually the book says to change oil every 6 months or 100 hours, whichever comes first, then change the filter every 200 hrs or one year, whichever comes first. Sort of overkill, but the oil does get diluted easily with a lot of trolling. Too bad those oil filters cost about $28 apiece.

In the F225 2004 owners manual, it now says to check water pump annually or 200 hours. Prior to that is was 500 hours or 30 months.

I understand that Bass and Walley Boats or Trailer Boats is coming out with a 4-stroke oil test story next month.

Changing oil, without changing the filter is like having sex with your shoes on. It's okay but it just ain't as much fun.
Filter don't cost much, takes an extra 2 minutes to change, why not change it?
Oil filter for my F115, cost about 10 bucks near as I can remember.

Do the filter - you're leaving dirty oil in the system if you do not.

My Honda 130 uses the Accord filter BTW - $4 Fram at the auto parts store. Accord plugs too!
