90/115 = 118.9 cu in 1950 cc
140 = 124.7 cu in 2044 cc

Not sure on HP but I've owned 3 140's and now own a 175, best motors I've ever owned.

I am betting on at least that or better than 140, from the one I rode on.

There was a member of this board who said he put one a dyno and it put out 146. Is there an objective 3rd party source for this info? Most people (including me just now) seem to be giving 2nd or 3rd hand info on this.

I will say this, mine is a ballsy little motor. Pops my boat right on plane with plenty of torque and top end.

The E.P.A. has hp and emissions data. Don't know how to find it though.

According to the emission data the Suzuki 140 is 138hp.

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/offroad...SIME&year=2007

Some others:
135 Optimax = 133hp
130 Honda = 130hp (from year 2005 list)
135 Evinrude DI = 135hp (from 2006 list)

For what it's worth........

I saved those files when they were posted here last. I don't see the DF140 on them.

I don't have the number, but i repowered my wellcraft 180 cc with a df 140. Previous motor was 115 evinrude direct injected 2 stroke and the Zuke trounces the rude in every department , except for mileage. which are pretty close.
Put it this way, I have 847 hours of absolutely trouble free operation since november of 05, awseome motor!

There is also rumors that they have detuned the recent 140's to make way for the 150!!! Don't know if it is true or not just an industry rumor. But I do know that, the boats I sold with 140's 2 years ago, are not as fast as the current ones with 140's. So go figure......But still great motors....don't get me wrong. I have two of them on my boat!!! And LOVE them!!!

I don't see any data on that site other than rated horsepower. Are you sure they performed dyno tests?

I have a "Johnzuki" 140 on my 24' skiff. My boat is a barge and that engine pushes it well. I'd say it's all of 140 hp and it has great torque. If you do some searching here and elsewhere, I'd venture to say it's one of the most reliable outboards ever made, GREAT reputation.

Battcheif:

Posted horsepower can vary as much as ten percent however my experience (measured on a dyno) is that figure drops into a much narrower percentage once the motor is broken in. My Suzuki 175 out of the crate measured 169 yet, after the break-in, measured 177 hp.

I would say the Suzuki 140 (or, in fact, just about any engine regardless of maker) would show lower hp (and more gas used) before the engine is seated.

I donít know where you got the figure of 125 but I think thatís bogus. I would accept 135 for a just-uncrated engine yet, again, testing an engine before itís broken in will always give lower numbers.

As far as I know no one has created a graph showing hp across the initial break in period. Anecdotally however those I have talked with have mentioned how more powerful the engine was once it was used for more than ten hours. My experience is similar: until the engine was seated it was a gas hog and I didnít get the performance I thought I should have. Now I have 200 hours on the engine (on a 20-ft Bayliner Trophy 2002WA) and I get 45 mph and gas use is far better than when it was brand new.
