Default best hatches & inspec. plates?

Once again I would like to tap into the vast knowledge on this forum. Who makes the most water tight round inspection plates, and the best storage hatches? thanks for any input.

check out armstrong compression deckplates. just installed one on my rig- they are very, very nice, and no drilling/silicone required

I saw the thread with your link and although that looks like a very stout deckplate, I'm wondering if it may have a profile too high for a high traffic area, I want to replace the 8" diameter deckplates over my fuel tank and also the access hatch to the battery compartment, 17.5 x 13. Anyone have any luck with the Beckson screw-in deckplates. I am also looking at the Bomar access hatch G71020-W with the double gaskets. Other suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

jamesbfishin You have asked the $64 question. HeHe
The one's that seal the best, become toe stubbers.
The one's that are fair with the deck, don't seal well.

Try plates manufactured from bronze.

i'm afraid warthog5 is right- the compression plates are the most watertight; they stand up about 1/4" from the deck/hole.

once you get fair with the deck, leaks happen. in my "better deckplate" thread, drydoc gives a step-by-step description of the bedding process for a flush mounted plate.

When you buy new hatches, try and get the ones that use the "slam latch". Its alot easier than having to stop and turn the catches to lock the hatch.

Fishing a Scout 177SF, a 1968 Mitchell, and a 1990 Laser sailboat (???)
