Default What's the best T-Top Outriggers

I recently got a used 27 Outrage. I want to put a set of T-Top outriggers on. I'm thinking of going with the Taco 250's with 15' poles. Anyone think there is a better option.

The only better option would be the Taco 350's , they have the crank on the bottom that allows you to crank up or down the angle from the bottom so you don't have to climb up on your gunnels and risk a fall, good luck...

The lee grand slam or the rupps are the best on the market. I prefer fixed pole riggers that can be trailered because the telescopic poles limit you to single rigging unless you run with them extended or you want a huge mess. I only mess with my outriggers to put them up for the run out and lay them down for the ride home on the trailer.

Lee Sidewinders are my favs. Best looking and simplest to operate.

I have used them all. Taco, Rupp and Lees are all top brands and should offer years of good service. If you decide to buy telescopic poles stick with the 1.5" diameter, the smaller poles are too flexible. I would stay away from Tigress, while their price was attractive i was not happy with the performance.

I have the Taco Grand Slams on 15 foot poles and haven't exactly been thrilled with them. One took off like a missile while I was going 30 MPH and just missed my wife and her friend who were standing behind the leaning post. Taco did send me a refurbrished pole......that won't telecope down all the way.

Another problem is mine refuse to stay up while trolling. No matter how tight they are, they slowly creep down throughout the day. Taco has said that the bases may need to be rewelded and I need to send them back. I don't have time for all these issues or to send em back. I'm going to have somebody local look at them to see if they can fix em.

They have offered to fix everything, but it would be nice if they would have worked correctly to begin with. There too expensive to have to go through this much aggrevation.

I meant to say Lee Sidewinders not Grand Slams.

I have Taco Grand Slam 15's and have been very happy with them. They are rigged with Tag Return's and clips and work great. I normally only extend one section out for the ride out to diminish them getting geat up.

Just my .02!

Matt
Matt
That was my problem as well-heres the fix from taco and it worked for me
Pry the taco emblem out of knob with a knife-pullthe circlip with circlip pliers and -first tape rachcet assembly (the round place with all the ball bearings) together-unscrew knob and add another s/s washer and lock washer so the order is mixed up on shaft reassemble-order taco plugs as the ones you dug out will be dead. It worked great for me.

As for best my taco grad slam mounts are ok but the 350 are better and ALL LEEs are best-My taco teloscoping poles are good -but if you do not need to go under low obsitciles they are a pain-My Tigress fixed poles are crap and break every run to tuna and I just order Lees extra strong as they are bullet proof-If I had it to do all over I'd go Lees all the way and be done-now I have three brands of poles and have to fix the taco t-top grand slams as they where not build right from day one-Go lees extra stong poles and what ever Lees mounts you like-the poles NEED to be EXTRA STRONG as my whaler outrage really beats them- repeat LEES are the best. I have the Taco GS350's and they have been great. They look as good as the Lees, and are really convenient for us guys who have a drawbridge to contend with on the way to the inlet. That being said, Lee's are also top notch, but at the present time they don't offer a model that allows you to lower from the cockpit like the Taco 350's or Rupp Top Guns.

My poles are double rigged with Rupp Knock Outs, and Hal Locks, and I have no problem storing the lines when they are telescoped. They even offer a line caddy if you are so inclined. Lee's has just come out with some nice looking telescoping poles as well. It all depends on your needs, and whether you need the telescoping or fixed. Stay away from the Taco Sport Slams. A friend has them, and you take your life in your hands offshore trying to deploy them.

I went with the Taco 350's. Now I need to purchase the poles. I am thinking the Lee's telescopics provides they fit in the taco 350's. What is the best telescopic outrigger? I will be pulling 2 bars on each side and really dont want to deal with replacing them because I scimpted.
