Default Rebuilding 4 stroke outboards

Has anyone had to rebuild their 4 stroke yet? What size motor, how much did it cost, and how many hours did you get out of your motor?

You will find on a 4 stroke not to many rebuild them when they do go. You are much better off replacing the outboard. But then again I guess you will find some that will do a half a** rebuild and call it good as new.

It seems like a common practice to rebuild 2 strokes or replace thier powerheads. When you figure the long term costs associated with each type of motor if you have to buy new instead of rebuild 4 strokes a whole new set of parameters come into play.

Funny thing . . . I can't ever remember anyone in my circle of friends and acquaintances ever needing to rebuild a 4 stroke 'cause it was worn out. I don't think they are old enough yet. My '98 Honda 90 hp is used hard and has about 1700 hours but still runs like a swiss watch. I think if I keep the oil fresh it will likely run forever, seems like it anyways . . .

That's odd. I have two friends/acquaintances in my circle of friends/acquaintances who own or did own Honda outboards. One has nearly 2,000 hours on a set of 130's and his have been rebuilt at least once that I know of. Another friend popped a set of 225's at around 500 hours and traded them in for Verados. I can only think of two others in my circle that have Hondas and neither has had any major issues that I know of...

None of them are perfect.
