That will teach him... Man gets 2 to 6 years for setting marina on fire
A Lindenhurst man was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in prison Tuesday for setting ablaze a marina as revenge for being fired from his job there.
Alfredo Bartos, 70, pleaded guilty to third degree arson last month for setting a fire at Kydd's Marine Center in Lindenhurst January that caused an estimated $2 million in damage. Bartos was fired from his maintenance job there shortly before Christmas last year.
Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Peter Timmons said Bartos used "his last 10 dollars" to buy gasoline, which he used to douse the marina, and then ignited it.
Prosecutors reccomended a sentence of 3 to 9 years in prison.
Suffolk County Court Judge James F.X. Doyle told Bartos in court Tuesday that he did a "horrible thing."
"You just happened to be lucky that nobody around there was injured," Doyle said.
