I have been looking for a mid-sized sportfisher for a while now, and have the 360 on our list, though at this point we are seriously considering moving up to an upper 30s convertible.
I have been on the 360 several times, including 2 sea trials, and we were very impressed. You can see the thread on this "Albemarle vs GW 360" - just do a search on Albemarle, or posts from my ID and you will find it.
Our impressions of the 360 were very positive. It tracks like it is on rails, turns tightly, and is incredibly quiet - it is like driving down the road with your windows down in terms of noise level. The cabin is nicely balanced, with galley, mid-cabin and dinette all adequately sized for a family. It feels really solid, and fit and finish is what you would expect from a GW. Visibility is excellent. Cruise was pretty close to the performance on the website - 31 MPH at 33 GPH at around 4550 RPM with the triple 250s
On the negative side are the diesel generator instead of gas (a PIA with fillups and having to worry about conserving fuel), the cabin lighting was not great, and the forward berth really could use some more headroom. We are also trying to figure out where we will stow our dinghy.
If we decide to get it, we will likely opt for the triple 350 package. We have a long run through LI sound to get to the fish, and we could use the extra speed, which I am assuming should put the rated cruise around 40 MPH.
FYI, Pursuit is coming out with a 375 express that will compete head to head with the GW, and on paper it has a better cabin layout IMO.
Actually GW has dropped gas generators for several reasons. The Fischer Panda 4.2KW units (used on the 30' and 33' models) ill run 40 hours on a 12 g tank. They are incredibly quiet and emit much less CO fumes. They have been very popular with those who have them so I would not write them off as a negative. The 360 uses a larger model but I believe the tank is also larger.
I haven't seen any test results. The 40 MPH guesstimated cruise is calculated based on the twin baseline. 50% more HP - 800 more lbs, and the additional drag should yield at least 25% more MPH.
The 360 has a 23 gallon tank, and conservative target at normal load is 45 - 50 hours.
I agree that there are certain safety advantages with the diesel. However, with all the refrigeration and climate control features, it would be a shame to have to ration that capacity and not be able to use them at will. I could see myself having to make extra trips to the gas dock just to keep the diesel tank topped off. Then there is the ever present risk of filling the wrong tank with the wrong fuel. All it takes is one lapse, and stuff happens.
The diesel fill is on the transom so confusing it with the gas is unlikely. Thank goodness it wasn't placed anywhere near the gas fills. The feedback has been extremely positive on the diesel gensets so don't let that steer you away if the GW360 is right for you. Boston Whaler and at least one other builder have started offering diesel gensets as well. Gas fumes and CO are two good reasons.
I have a diesel genset on an outboard-powered boat (ProKat 2860 WA). The diesel fill is on the transom, so as long as I'm fueling the boat, I expect no problems. A diesel genset is safer, both from a vapor persepctive as well as CO.
I read a short article on the F350 last night in boating. the GW360 with trip 250s has a wot speed of 44mph. with trip F350s the wot speed is 54mph. economy at cruise is 0.89mpg for the 350s(3) essentially the same as the F250s. they did not give cruise speeds
