Im wondering if running the cabin light and maybe the cockpit light will be ok for a overnite trip. Ive got two batteries and I would image its not a problem to run the lites for a overnite period.

Do you need a light on while you sleep? If not, a few hours won't drain the batteries. Another option would be those battery powered LED "stick-up lights. I got a few around the house and they last a long time on one set of 3 AAA batteries.
I just bought a boat.....now what do I do with it
My red and green lights are not bright enough for me to see where im going at night....
What is a drain plug
My Favorite universal question..........Whats the cheapest, best, 20 ft. boat that can comfortably take 2 to 4 ft. seas????

Bolton, I assume you mean when fishing overnight and not just anchored.
It all depends on the draw. If you can isolate one battery through your switch I would do that then at least you know you can get the engine(s) started. Failing the switch route consider popping off the cables on one.
Another longer term solution, and one which I use though I have the room to do it, is to buy an extra battery and have it sitting in the engine compartment. If you screw up and drain both batteries simply hook it up. then when you get back to shore switch it back out if you charge on shore power as I do. Otherwise, when the alternator has charged the dead battery still left on switch it out on the way back in and let it charge also.
It's very cheap insurance at around $60.
(And yes I had read the previous thread - now you see how useful even "stupid looking" posts can be.)
i like the one about the red or green lights hahah not being bright enough for navigation purposes haha these are not head lights buy a spot light or gps or guess haha if you have knowledge of the area
As some one that is new I know I was not born an expert, or a regular I know it all. Well either you learn by asking questions or are a fool to just assume you already know. Either way Internet forums are for folks to share information and ask questions sorry if we new folk to your expert only forum bother you.
Sorry for being a smartass, but this thread started off kinda making fun of what appeared to be a fairly, shall we say, "basic" kind of question. I sure don't mean to discourage anyone from asking questions. I am sure not all of mine have been gems.
