Need comments on Sea Pro 17CC. Looking seriously at one with 2003 yamaha 4 stroke 90 Hp. Boat looks pretty good to me in fit and mfg techniques. will be using mainly for fresh water and coastal fishing.

28 views and not a single reply? Must be all the Scout (expensive mid-tier), Contender, and Regulator owners who don't like mid-tier boats.

Sea Pro's are decent boats, but check out the Key West 1720 CC. 8" draft, 15º deadrise, ~7' beam, and has a maximum HP of 120. A 90 HP would push it just fine. I think Key Wests are slightly higher quality boats.

You will like either boat. It is just a matter of what one fits your needs the best.

Sea Pro's are great values, my brother owns a 2000 180CCwith a Johnson 90, he has had no problems whatsoever, he does wish he had a larger motor, the 90hp on the 17CC should do fine, good luck, stan

I have a 190CC with a 115hP Johnson OceanPro. Is there anything specific you want to know? Where will you be fishing out of?

I have the 21 foot bay boat with a 150 merc. Love it. Lots of boat for the money. Great ride and like the no wood construction. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Maybe a few stats:

Sea Pro 170CC
17'x6'10"
950#
Fuel - 20gal. (not much for a 17ft./90hp)
Deadrise - 12deg.
Draft - 6"
Rec. HP - 70-90

Key West 1720CC
17'2"x6'10"
1,150#
Fuel - 31gal. (a LOT more!)
Deadrise - 15deg.
Draft - 8"
Rec. HP - 70-90

BOTH boats are pretty much "apples-to-apples" in quality, fit/finish. BOTH will do what you're asking.

Can you get a K.W. with Yama? Don't "see" a 90/4-stroke in the Yama catalog? Are you sure it's not an 80 or a 100? Maybe they have a 90/4 now? Weight is 356# on both 80 & 100.

I would give the "edge" to Key West - rode in the same boat (5yrs. old though, w/90 4-cyl., 2-stroke 5-year old Johnson - hauled butt!). The extra 11gals. of gas in the K.W. is something to think about!

There are actually more Sea Pro's in my area than Key West's, so somebody really like them!

Hard choice - both are very popular!

Good luck!

Regards,
Bruce W

I have a 190 Dc and love it. Good boat for the money. Fit and finish is decent although not perfect. I have had mine for 3 years and have no problems. Definitely get the biggest engine you can afford, the extra top end will be appreciated when you need to get back.

The ride is a little rougher than other boats because of the shallower deadrise and light weight. A hydrofoil or trim tabs will help this.

I have put mine through some pretty rough seas off of San Diego and it's held up just fine. Nothing has come loose or broken since I got it.

I recommend them as a good mid-tier boat.

I own a seapro sv1700cc for about 2 years and have a merc 90. top speed is 40mph very dry overall good ride. pretty rough in heavy seas, top end is about 20mph to stay comfortable. The specs from the individual comparing it to the Key West got the numbers off a little. here are the correct info on a 2001 and newer boat. Overall the onlything I wish it had was better rod storage. I flyfish and storing a flyrod on this boat is a chalenge.
good luck

Specifications
· Centerline Length: 17'1"
· Beam: 7'4"
· Approx. Wt.: 1000 LBS
· Fuel Capacity: 33 GAL
· Max. HP: 115 HP
· Rec. HP: 70-90 HP
· O/B Shaft Length: 20"
· Deadrise @ Transom 15°
· Approx. Draft: 8"

Hepler,

Think I see what happened.

I thought JFANGUY was asking about the 170CC and I guess you thought he was asking about the SV1700CC - 2 different boats.

Not sure WHICH he is looking at?

I gave specs on the 170CC and you gave them on the "SV" model. BOTH of us are right!!! HA!

Anyway, nice boats - Sea Pro OR Key West!

Regards,
Bruce W
