Default trailer springs

My trailer is a 96 single axle but just started seeing salt water about 4 years ago. I checked the springs carefully when installing new side lights and they are in quite good shape. The black paint has mostly flaked off and of course they are rusty but only surface rust at this point.
I thought I might take some action now while they are still in good shape. I am not sure of the best way to do this to delay bad rusting.. I have in the past occassionally sprayed the springs with WD-40. I was thinking about spraying rust converter on them. The stuff is thin enough to seep into some of the spaces between springs and I most likely would not paint over it but just repeat as needed.
I could also use something like corrosion block but don't think that is too wise over rust.
I will be doing this with boat on the trailer so I understand the job will not completely seal the springs but is oriented more toward preventative maintenance and getting longer life from the springs. Any thoughts?

Default Re: trailer springs

Take water proof grease like what you use on the trailer bearings and mush it in all over the springs and hangers. I do this with the grease that comes out when I pump some into my bearings. Messy job but works very well. My springs have only been it salt water and are not rusty. They are quite greasy though.
