Random Quote: Life sure has it's share of disadvantages, but it still beats the hell out of the alternatives
Alright, I got a bot now but I need to buy a new trailer to go pick it up next week in Jersey.. Talk to 10 different folks about what brand of trailer is good and you'll get 8 different answers. Not sure I would be that hung up on the name brand so much, but are Torsion bar axles and Disk brake trailers all that much better than Leaf spring trailers with Drum Brakes ??
Is a 5 Star or a Load rite with disks and Torsion bars that much better than a Venture Trailer with Drums and leaf springs ?? There is at least $500 difference in price..
Do the Torsion bars really make a difference and provide better highway tracking as some folks have said. ??
I can buy an Aluminum Venture pretty reasonably and it looks pretty nice..
Is sounds like you may have already made up your mind to go cheap, but I have had both and $500 more to get torsion axles and disk brakes is a bargain. You should get Kodiak brakes, not Tie Down Engineering. Torsion axles do ride and track better, and you don't have to fight leaf spring rust.
I have a chance to buy a Load-Rite 4700 pound trailer thats a leftover. I am afraid its a little too big for the boat.. Its a 23tg4700 which is a 4700 pound trailer made to fit a 21-23 foot boat...I can own it for $1995. Its got Torsion axle and Disk brakes but what if it does not fit the boat??
If you are boating in salt water then no question that I would use torsion and disk. I would still want this even if the use was exclusively fresh water. I would suggest that you calculate the loaded weight of your boat (full fuel, etc) then call Load Rite and ask them if trailer is OK.
If you can get a Rolls trailer you will be very happy with the quality. The only part that is not ss or alum. is the trailer tongue, check them out....top notch rig.

No comparision. once you have had torsion bars and disk brakes you will never own anything else. Ventures are mid grade at best.
For a $500.00 upgrade, it's a no brainer. Do it.
Venture also makes trailers with torsion axles and disc brakes. My trailer is a Venture and it's been fine. For me, the trailer is just a tool to move the boat around.
I agree with everyone so far I think. Leaf springs and saltwater have been a necessary evil forever, now that's history, ditto disc brakes. I simply can't justify all the money for stainless, I'm 4 years and 10,000 miles into my rig without more than a little maintenance. I have a Load-Rite 'Aluminum I-Beam' trailer, they use galvanized and even cad plated fastners, hardware etc. For those reasons, I dislike the trailer, but in it's defense, it has worked flawlessly. If I trailered my boat every weekend, I would go the extra money for a top shelf, all aluminum with stainless disc brakes, otherwise The Load-Rite, 5 Starr, Venture class with discs and torsion axles will be fine.
I will NEVER buy drum brakes or leaf springs again.
Rolls Axle trailers are not only all aluminum and stainless steel. They also have their own cutting edge designs for a stainless steel hub assembly and a lifetime spring assembly that are superior to anything else on the market:
Stretch,
Any idea how much extra the Rolls trailer would be over cheap ones like EasyLoader? I looked at them and seem nice.
Looking for something to carry a 16' Whaler about 2000 lbs.
I ordered a Loadmaster with torsion axles, disk brakes and electric over hydraulic brakes. I can't see myself going back to springs/drums/surge brakes ever again................
