Smoking Optimax ?? Help - The Hull Truth

I have a 200 hp optimax that is running great. After sitting for about an hour I restatrted the engine and puff ..lots of blue smoke spewing. The engine ran good and after 2-3 minutes it cleared up. Could this be some carbon breaking loose or is there a problem. It happened twice but always clears up after a couple minutes. Appreciate thoughts and comments.

Check your plugs.

This past spring my Opti needed new plugs because of the carbon build up.
Any skipping or surging??

Do you run with Quickleen?? If not, begin today. Do you troll or run at low RPM's??

Plugs are new and no skipping .. runs great. I did have some cleaner in the fuel. Just smokes like hell on start then runs clear . Only after sitting for awhile though?? Thanks

Is it new and still in the 10 hour break in? if so its pumping double oil. Other thing if you didnt run it during the breakin period trimmed all the way down so the motor could track the break in period from being under load it may still be pumping double oil. Talked to a dealer who said people had brought their opti's in with 70 hours on them and they were still pumping double oil because they didnt follow the break in procedure.

What oil are you using? I use Opti oil and only get small puff after trolling for hours. No smoke when starting.

I use opti oil. Usually just get a small puff after long idle , but this was a case of spewing blue smoke. The good news its running great -in fact seems faster, but why so much smoke all of a sudden. Not new and has about 70 hrs on the engine.Could it be some carbon breaking loose??

I know nothing about these motors and just a little more about my carbed Merc 200

I have heard that a check valve in the oiling system can malfunction on my type motor and pressure from the oil tank can push oil into the carbs while sitting and cause excessive smoke on start up. Maybe you have a bad oil injector letting oil by at times

after break in i put in quick cleen on my 250 opti pro xswould smoke once in a while on start up . but after a few times it stoped .
that was at about 15 hrs , i have 50 hours on it now and no smoke , but i do run super unleaded and only the oil thats recomended

it seems the more hours i get on it the better it runs
