Default Honda 200 vs 225 in twin application

Any Honda guys out there that could provide some input on the difference between the 200's and the 225's? The 225 has the VTEC technology - want to know if it's that important to spend the extra money.
Seacurity - would like some input from you on your Triton because what you have is what I'm considering only with the 200's.
For what it's worth all the Honda people I've talked to said not many of the 200's are sold - more people opt for the 225 - just don't know if I need it - if it's a big deal I'll probably get them.
Let me know guys. Thanks.....

I didn't even consider the 200's. How much cheaper are they?

At 4500 rpm's the v-tec intake cam changes to the higher lift and feels like a 4bbl kicking in on an older carb'd car. The 225 is worth it to me. The main thing about this engine is that you want to prop it between 58-6000 rpm's..
The 200 torque/horsepower levels out at 4500 rpm's where as the 225 keeps rising. On my boat, Mercuries Mirage Plus and Vengeance are far superior to Honda's Solas prop.. Make sure your dealer is willing to spend the time on letting you try props and to get the engine height correct. You get both of them in spec and you will love these engines.

Just took delivery of my new Pro Kat 2860 WA with twin Honda 225s. With limited experience, I can vouch for the 225s! The VTEC kicks in and the boat really takes off. They are quiet, run strong, and the mileage looks good on a pretty heavy rig. So far, so good!

Boatman Buzz,

I didn't think that you could use the merc mirage props on Honda's? Only Yammies.

Is this new, or just a special adapter sleeve?

Nope, the 200 doesn't utilize the V Tec technology - only the 225 does. I've talked with a number of people and received help from the THT gang as well. I can afford and the boat will run fine with 200's so that's the direction I'm headed in. It's reliability I want not a 70mph fishing boat. 99% positive on the Honda feedback I've gotten - that's enough for me. Thanks guys, have a good weekend.......

I am running a Mercury Mirage Plus. I also tried their Vengeance and Rev 4. The Mirage and Vengeance out perform the Honda/Solas props badly. The black plastic sleeve that comes with the Merc props fits the shaft of the Honda lower unit. I did have to buy a new lock ring & washer for the nut as the Merc prop is different there. I did this 5-02 so it's hard to remember exactly. I have never been a Merc fan and it killed me having to put a Merc prop on my new Honda to make it perform.
