Default Extended Waranty on Honda 225's

Need some advice on extended warranties. I am scheduled to take delivery of 2003 WorldCat 270TE this Saturday. It is powered with twin Honda 225's. I thought the extende three year warranty was from Honda but when I recieved my paperwork I see that it is administered by First Protection Services. I am spending right around 4k for warranty right now. Is this a good idea or is it just another add on. Any thoughts or experiences with extended warranties would be appreciated.

I wouldn't purchase a new boat without and extended warranty on the drive train! I have owned two (2) new boats, and the extended warranty has paid for itself many times over! One boat had 5.7 engine problems, and the other boat had drive problems. Don't leave the dock without it!!!!!----Greg

I too have twin Honda's and from what I am hearing, they are historically trouble free.

I guess having an extra 3 years of warranty is not a bad thing, but if you can find a cheaper plan, do so.

When purchasing a car, Saturn and Jeep tried to stuff an extended warranty down my throat. My response was that my auto insurance company Geico offered a plan that was significantly less.

Not sure is it applies to outboards, but Geico insured both cars for up to 100K on all major mechanical problems for less than 100 dollars a year.

They covered my altenator and battery under their major mechanical plan.

Not sure if it helps, just my 2 cents.

I think First Protection Services is the same company that is covering the Ficht Ram 4 year extended warranty . It cost me 1575 for those extra 4 years. I would do a google search and compare prices.
