Default Suzuki DF225 Won't Start--Electrical issue?

While drift fishing off shore last week, I had shut down my '04 DF225. After about an hour, I went start it up to begin another drift over a reef, had all four of the "system check lights" blink on and off as normal, but got no response from the key when trying to start.

I tried battery one, battery two, and both postitions on the battery switch. (both new, group 24 marine cranking batteries). I also then tried to start the Yam T8, which turned over and fired just fine. I continued to idle the kicker for a while, thinking that perhaps I had a low voltage issue? After a series of attempts, I had the main engine light off and run fine for the rest of the day (I didn't shut it down again, as we were 50 miles out).

Cooincidently (or maybe not), the sonar portion of my Lowrance LMS350-A would not function. Not sure what the problem is there? I have a appt. with the dealer next week in the event my issue is something with the motor.

I'd appreciate any feedback on troubleshooting techniques/ideas for other issues that may be causing my trouble..

Check your negative battery connections for an incomplete ground.

I just had almost the same thing happen last week in the pacific ocean 15 miles out on my DF140. I set up a drift using the main motor. All electronics ok. Shut the engine off, made the drift, and went to key up. Normal lights on the rpm gauge, just nothing when the key was turned. First, I thought I had left it in gear. Nope. So I went to the batteries. The negative cable end to one of the batteries had enough to connect power, but not enough when the extra power was needed to start the main engine. Wiggled the connection while my friend keyed up, and the engine started just fine.

I got back home and changed from wing nuts to nylock.

Interesting. I used to have nyloc nuts on the old batteries, left them on the posts when I returned them. I used the wing nuts on the new batteries.

I hope it's that simple.

Wing nuts are a no no with these motors. The connections become loose and can lead to all kinds of problems. The people that rigged my motors also left the Wing Nuts on the batteries from the previous setup. I changed them before I ran the motors the first time.
