Default Flo-Scan or Navman Fuel Management

I have been thinking a fuel management system like the Flo-Scan or Navman would be an excellent addition to my new boat (22 Pro-Line Walk w/200 Mercury Saltwater Classic)

I don't run far offshore and my tank guage seems accurate as tank guages go but I get tired of wondering exactly how much fuel I have left and how far I can run.

The Navman 3100 looks like it would fit in my dash pretty well.

Anyone have experience with these?

Default Flo-Scan or Navman Fuel Management

I have the NAVMAN 2100 Series. This gauge is exact. I too got tired of wondering, especially when I'm 30+ miles out. When I first installed it, I got high readings which was blamed on either a faulty transducer or an air leak. I took the ducer off the fuel line, reinstalled, but used SS Clamps instead of the plastic clamps that came with the unit. NAVMAN said they are discontinuing plastic. Evidently, it was an air leak because it has worked great ever since. That was be the best $199.95 I ever invested. Good luck, Jack

Default Flo-Scan or Navman Fuel Management

I just installed the Navman 2100 on Saturday and it seems to be working as advertised. My gas gauge, (along with everyone I know who owns a boat), stopped working correctly. A friend suggested I give this a shot instead of fixing the gauge. It's pretty sweet. It will tell you real time usage as well as trip total. You can have it shipped to your door for 149.00......

Saecat FL,
I have the 2100 NavMan and love it. When you're offshore and the tank guage shows a reading, most people get that feeling of "is it accurate". With the NavMan, there is no doubt! I have been within a gallon on every refuel.

My mistake. $149.00. If it was $199. I would have still bought it. Jack

I bought the NavMan GPS/Chartplotter with the fuel flow meter built in. Once I got it hooked up it seems to work good, although I haven't officially calibrated it.

Are you looking at the fuel flow meter or the combo unit? A couple of things to think about:

-The power must always be on so it works when the engine is running.

-If you get the combo unit, it must always be on the boat and powered on before the engine is running.

-The combo unit will require you to switch back and forth from one display to the other so you can't constantly monitor the fuel rate.

Either one you get will require that you mount the transducer after the fuel filter and in a vertical position so that the fuel flows up. This is not as easy as it seems since a lot of fuel filters are mounted in the open and you either have to relocate the filter or re-route the fuel hose and maybe drill some holes in your boat for the fuel line exits, and you are supposed to use CG approved fuel line in enclosed spaces which is much thicker in diameter.

The data is awesome and I highly recommend a flow meter. I'm not sure why every boat doesn't have one, but then I've also wondered why vechicles don't have gauges to measure air speed either (think about headwinds or tailwinds and fuel economy).

One other thing...go to Navman.com and you can read the instructions for any of the units to see how they function and how to install.

Thanks for the info. I am looking at the standalone guage which is the 2100 IIRC.

At $150 it seems very reasonable.

I bought the Standard f41 before Navman came onto the scene. I was debating the Flowscan vs the Standard. Not only at that time was the Flowscan almost 2x as much but it also required a larger hole and took up more console space. The Standard for the last 3 years has work flawlessly. I understand the Navman and Standard are basically the same units. So from my perspective based on flawless use, and lower price, the Navman/Stnadrad offer more value for the money.
