I have twins, got them this year with 51 hours on them. There are cumputer up dates, fuel injector up dates too!Another thing would be to make sure that the motors are survey with a computer read out, water pump replacement if they are older then 2 years old.The only problem I had sofar were carbon up plugs when I got it and a popit valve dirpharm busted($4.50 part),easy to change.Other then that, they run like a bat out of hell!

would definatley make sure they have the updates. That year had alot of problems with powerhead failures. Most of the problems were related to fuel rails and injectors. 200 hrs isn't alot of hours which isn't a good thing for motors of that age. If the price on the boat is right it might be worth a chance but make sure he is aware how much it cost to replace a powerhead on an optimax if it blows.

Get the engine serial numbers and email Mercury. They will get right back to you and tell you if the engines had the fix applied to them.

I emailed them about my 1999 Optimax and they called me back on the phone number I left them on the same day, about an hour or so after sending the email. Needless to say I was impressed - nobody ever does that. Usually you wait 1 - 5 days for a response.

The Optis that had the problem were 1999 - 2001 200 and 225 horsepower units. So yea, get the serial numbers and contact Mercury.

Do you know Mercury's E-Mail address for such correspondence. I don't think the website has anything other than sales info and manuals. Thanks

running numbers is easy , my local dealer will do that , the boat is 65 k no trailer . nice boat .the owner died , his wife is selling it , it was used for diving ,
my friend does not want that boat he wants a 2502 trophy . but every thing around here is under powered . and if it has good power its from sc or fl and a 3 year old boat looks 10 years old . his wife is the one that wants the 28 footer

would you own that year opti ?
